Pressure Tactics + Packet Spoofing = Delay Play
Today, I stumbled upon something I thought I'd share with you all.
I’ve got fiber internet, so my connection is pretty fast. Nevertheless, today I decided to check my MS delay counter while playing EAFC and noticed something odd.
At the start of my third game in, there was no delay at all with my opponent. But then, about a quarter of the way in, when they started losing, the delay shot up to 101 MS (guessing packet spoofing) and stayed there. I didn’t touch my internet settings, so this issue was clearly on their end. You can search packet spoofing online.
So why would an opponent do this?
Well, with a high delay, EAFC slows down, and player responsiveness becomes almost nonexistent. Your cards feel like they’re playing at a bronze level. But here’s the kicker: pressure and counter tactics become incredibly effective due to the lack of movement. The longer the game goes, the worse the movement gets (probably due to stamina and delay).
Also, through balls become almost unstoppable during counterattacks. Opponent players latch onto them like a rat onto cheese because they know it works due to the EA code adjustment.
How does this give the opponent an edge?
The answer is obvious and simple, they are used to these conditions, and you are not! All their games are like this. They have mastered the art of Delay Play.
Back when I first started playing, I had no clue what was happening. After years of frustration, I’ve found some button combinations that help mitigate the effects a bit.
Sadly, over the years I have encountered not just one or two, but a distinct player base that plays like this. I do not know if they are all packet spoofing, some could legitimately just be on terrible WIFI. I do not want to soften my heart to this, though, they all still giddy and do the semi twerk celebrations. Also, on Reddit posts you can find that players are willingly doing this even if they have good internet.
EA, could you please consider giving players the option to match with others who have similar and consistent ping? It would be two simple dropdowns in the matchmaking screen. I think many of us would rather wait for a fair game than deal with packet spoofing and an overall frustrating experience.
Subsequently, you could also run a report to see where ping is being manipulated in game to take unfair advantage.
