Can't invite pc friend but pc friend can invite me

I (XBOX SERIES S) tried to invite my friend (PC) because we wanted to use my team in rivals, I can't find his nametag on my coop list when I try and invite him, however when I go to the friends list he's right there online, so I asked him to invite me and it worked perfectly fine. Why is this even an issue.
