Ban reason has changed 3 times across appeals

Posting this because my case shows some clear internal inconsistencies from EA that I think are worth flagging publicly, especially given how many similar reports I've seen from other players dealing with coin/balance transfer bans this cycle.

Timeline of what I've been told, in order:

1. Original ban notice: reason given as "Coin Distribution."

2. First appeal denial: similar wording, upheld.

3. Second appeal denial: switched to a generic "cheating" classification under the ToS, without repeating or explaining the original coin distribution basis.

4. Third appeal denial: changed again — described as a "Transfer Market lock" specific to FC 26 only, explicitly stating future titles would be unaffected.

5. My own Penalty History page, however, lists the violation reason as "Balance transfer," and states the ban is permanent with no access to Football Soccer at all — not a Transfer Market-only restriction.

So across four separate communications from EA, on the same case, I've been given three different stated reasons and two directly contradictory descriptions of what the ban actually covers. I'm not asking anyone to take my word on the underlying accusation — I understand EA doesn't disclose detection methods, and that's a separate question. But the inconsistency between EA's own systems and communications is a documented, checkable fact, not a dispute over judgment.

I've submitted four appeals and a formal data access request, each without a substantive individual response beyond templated decisions.

Has anyone else had a case where the stated reason or scope changed between appeals like this? Curious how common this actually is, and whether anyone's had luck getting a case looked at by an actual person rather than routed through the same template each time.

  • Hi LovSaikaKawakita,

Thanks for taking the time to lay out the different messages and statuses you’ve received.

I can see why the different descriptions across the ban notice, appeal responses, and Penalty History would be confusing.

Just to clarify, appeals are reviewed individually, and different members of the review team may look at subsequent appeals. The response wording can still be standardized or templated, so similar wording doesn’t necessarily mean the appeal wasn’t reviewed by a person.

Unfortunately, we’re not able to review account-specific enforcement records or determine through the forums why the wording or scope appears different between those communications.

Since you’ve already submitted multiple appeals, please continue to use your Penalty History for any remaining appeal options and include the inconsistencies you’ve listed here as part of any further review.

You can find the official appeal guidance here:

Check and appeal EA Account locks, bans, and suspensions

Thanks for documenting the details clearly.

  • EA's appeal process doesn't review anything — documented proof, four identical denials on four different submissions

I'm posting this because I've now been through seven appeals on a single case, and what I've documented isn't a disagreement about whether I broke a rule. It's proof that the review process itself doesn't function the way EA claims it does.

Here's what's actually happened, in order:
    - Original ban notice: reason given as "Coin Distribution."
    - Appeal 2 denial: switched to a generic "cheating" classification, no explanation for the change.
    - Appeal 3 denial: changed again to a "Transfer Market lock," specific to FC 26 only, stating future titles unaffected.
    - My own Penalty History page, the entire time, has listed the reason as "Balance transfer," describing a permanent, full account ban — not a Transfer Market restriction. This has never matched what I've been told by email, at any point.
    - Appeals 2, 4, 5, and 6 came back word-for-word identical to each other, despite each one raising new, specific, checkable evidence, including the contradiction above. Identical text across four separate reviews is not consistent with EA's own stated claim that "each appeal is individually reviewed by a trained member of our team."
    - After appeal 7, I was told: "We have performed all investigations possible on this issue and will not reverse the decision. Please do not expect further responses on this matter." The reappeal option remained available immediately afterward, and I used it to submit a full, detailed account of every relevant transaction on my account, addressing every possible explanation I could think of. I have had no acknowledgment of that submission's content.

At no point across eight total communications from EA has any specific evidence, transaction, or explanation been shown to me. I've had three different stated reasons and two directly contradictory descriptions of what the penalty even covers, from EA's own systems, on the same case.

I'm not asking anyone here to just take my word that I'm innocent. I'm asking people to look at the actual, documented inconsistency in EA's own communications, which stands regardless of the underlying accusation. A process that returns identical decisions to different evidence, then tells you to stop expecting a response while leaving the door open to submit again, isn't a review process. It's a wall with a submission button attached to it.

If anyone else has hit this same pattern — shifting reasons, identical templates, contradictions between Penalty History and appeal emails — I'd genuinely like to know how common this actually is. And if anyone from EA with actual visibility into cases ever reads these threads, Case #253716692 is sitting here with all of this documented and unresolved.

Unfortunately they’re “reviewed” individually by individually deficient outsourced EA support staff who really don’t care about you as a customer or fairness, truth or doing their jobs. Multiple people reporting unfair bans, multiple people reporting the same ineffective responses from EA support. There’s no point complaining about it because they don’t care, they’ll just give you a copy and paste “oh well” response like above.

    Hi LovSaikaKawakita and Lima-Delta-Delta,

I understand why receiving very similar responses across multiple appeals would make you question whether the reviews are actually being handled individually.

Just to clarify, appeals are manually reviewed by a member of the Terms of Service team. The response sent afterward may use standardized or templated wording, which can make it feel automated, but the review itself is not automated.

The team also won’t be able to provide every detail behind an enforcement decision. Certain information is kept confidential to protect EA’s enforcement and security processes, so the response will generally provide the overall reason rather than specific detection details or internal evidence.

I also understand why the different wording you’ve received between the appeal emails and Penalty History is confusing, especially after you’ve submitted additional information in each appeal.

Unfortunately, we’re not able to access the underlying account records or enforcement evidence from the forums, so we can’t review or overturn the decision here.

If the appeal option is still available and you have new or relevant information that hasn’t already been considered, you can include that in another appeal for the team to review.

  • I’ve now gone through repeated EA appeals without getting a substantive resolution, and I’ve seen many other players describing the same problem. If you believe you were wrongly sanctioned and the normal appeal process is getting you nowhere, EA has another formal process available through its Legal Department.

FORMAL NOTICE OF DISPUTE TO EA LEGAL

For U.S. customers, EA’s User Agreement provides a formal Notice of Dispute procedure. This is separate from the normal Penalty History appeal process.

Send a written Notice of Dispute to:

    Electronic Arts Inc.
    209 Redwood Shores Parkway
    Redwood City, CA 94065
    ATTENTION: LEGAL DEPARTMENT

    Your Notice should include:

    • Your full name
      • Telephone number
      • Mailing address
      • EA Account email or username
      • The game involved
      • A clear description of what happened and why you dispute EA’s decision
      • Your EA case/penalty information
      • The resolution you want
      • The amount of money you are seeking, if applicable
      • Your personal signature

Attach or preserve documentation such as your Penalty History, rejection emails, appeal history, screenshots, and relevant purchase records.

Send it with tracking and keep a complete copy plus proof of delivery.

You do NOT need to demand EA reveal proprietary anti-cheat systems or detection methods. If your dispute concerns “Balance transfer” or coin distribution, you can simply ask EA Legal to review your actual account/Transfer Market records and identify the conduct EA determined violated its rules.

EA’s User Agreement provides for an informal dispute-resolution period after EA receives a proper Notice of Dispute.

This is not another appeal. It is EA’s own formal dispute-resolution procedure.

Before sending anything, read Section 15 of EA’s current User Agreement, particularly because procedures may differ outside the United States:

    https://www.ea.com/legal/user-agreement

If repeated appeals are accomplishing nothing, you do not necessarily have to keep submitting the same dispute indefinitely through the same appeal system. EA itself provides this additional escalation route.
