Goalkeeper doesn’t perform punch clearance with Alternative controls (PS5)
Hi,
I’m having an issue with the goalkeeper controls in EA FC 26 when using the “Alternative” control scheme.
In this mode, the Square button is assigned to both catch ball and punch clearance, but the goalkeeper never performs a punch clearance — he only tries to catch the ball.
I’ve tested all possible combinations (holding R1 + Square, disabling auto positioning, resetting controls, and restarting the game), but the result is always the same: the goalkeeper never performs a punch clearance.
However, if I switch to the “Classic” control scheme, everything works correctly: Circle to catch ball and Square to perform a punch clearance.
I’ve been using the Alternative layout for years, and it’s really frustrating having to switch control schemes every time I want to play as a goalkeeper in Clubs Pro, and then change it back when I play Ultimate Team or other modes.
On top of that, the Clubs Pro menu doesn’t even let you change your control layout directly, so every time I need to switch controls I have to exit to the main menu, change it there, and then go back into Clubs Pro again. It’s very inconvenient and time-consuming.
This clearly shows that the issue comes from how the game interprets goalkeeper buttons when using the Alternative layout.
Please review this issue or allow us to remap goalkeeper buttons independently, because right now it’s impossible to play properly as a goalkeeper with the “Alternative” control scheme.
Thanks for your attention — I hope this can be fixed in an upcoming update.
