The 'Wide Midfielder' role needs to be remodelled in the Youth Academy
On FC 25/26 the Wide Midfielder role is essentially a Winger who's defensive stats you can minimally train, however the issue is that when you scout Wide Midfielders they still have the statistical make up of an out and out Winger, there needs to be more emphasis on their physical and defensive stats.
The highest stats of the 'Wide Midfielder' are dribbling, pace and agility, however their defensive and physical stats are extremely low, which goes back to my initial point, these 'Wide Midfielders' are essentially just Wingers in a different font.
In Football today, the Wide Midfielder role is essentially extinct, however there was a time when it wasn't, and 20 odd years ago Wide Midfielders were tasked with helping out in both defence and attack and they were players who would hog the touch line, they were literal Wide Midfielders not Wingers.
The best examples are David Beckham, Ryan Giggs & Pavel Nedved; tireless runners who excelled at both ends of the pitch whilst providing width.
Please look into this and fix it, Wide Midfielders would be perfect in a 442 or any 3 or 5 at the back formation but with their poor defensive stats you can't utilise them as wingbacks.
When we scout "Wide Midfielder" in the Youth Academy the players should have adequate physical and defensive stats to reflect the "Wide Midfielder" role appropriately.
