I'm a big fan of this. I remember another game some 20+ years ago having the same feature. I think it was called "This is Football", and it may have been the 2002 edition off the top of my head. Here you could pick from a lot of classic teams, for instance 50's Real Madrid, 60's Benfica, 60's Inter, 60's Man United, 70's Ajax, 70's Bayern, 80's Liverpool, 90's AC Milan, 90's Barcelona and so forth. It was fun, and young football fans could also learn about historic players and teams this way.

FIFA 2000 had a mode similar to this.
Basically there were "eras" teams, you could choose to play a match between, say, 1990s AC Milan and 1970s Ajax for example, something like that. The look and feel of the match (well, for what the tech of that time allowed) would match the ones of the home team (so for example if the home team was from the '60s, the match would be played with a 'sepia' filter).
It lacked the opportunity to replay single matches between teams from the same season though (which is what you're suggesting) and it's a great idea.
Maybe EA could work together with UEFA on this, seeing that they have the UCL license.
