Manager Mode: Youth Tourneys Are NOT Playing at Potential?

Is it my imagination or is the "Play at Full Player Potential" setting not working in Youth Tourneys?  My high potential players (expected 84-94) feel VERY sluggish, more like they are performing at their current overall (upper 50s).  Has anyone else tried and and felt that?  Perhaps I'm still getting used to Authentic Game Mode play?
