While story modes like Alex Hunter’s were a breath of fresh air, the real tragedy is how neglected Player Career Mode has become. Year after year, we get surface level tweaks and flashy buzzwords, but under the hood? It’s the same stale, underdeveloped mess. No meaningful progression systems, no dynamic storylines, no real agency. Just a glorified stat tracker with cutscenes that feel like they were stitched together in a weekend.
And let’s talk about the dev team responsible for this mode. Whoever’s in charge clearly doesn’t understand what makes career mode compelling. Either they’re out of touch, under resourced, or just plain lazy. It’s honestly embarrassing how little effort goes into a mode that should be a flagship experience. Compare it to what 2K does with MyCareer or even older FIFA iterations it’s night and day.
EA needs a serious overhaul in personnel. Fresh minds, actual football fans, and people who care about immersive gameplay not just monetisation. Right now, it feels like the team is phoning it in, and the community deserves better than this joke of a development cycle.
If EA wants to win back trust, they need to stop recycling features and start rebuilding Career Mode from the ground up. Until then, it’s just empty promises and wasted potential.
