Icons and Heroes?!

Ideally I would like someone at EA to address this. 

In buying the game I was finally expecting to be able to use Icons in Career mode however they seem to be hidden behind a list of confusing unlocks. The classic squads look really cool and how great it would be to add them all to a career mode so they can be part of the transfer market. PES used to do it! 

Instead I have absolutely no clue how to unlock any of them. I don't play and don't intend to start playing Ultimate Team. I only ever play manager mode and would happily pay extra for this feature. I just don't get while they aren't available. 

Any help please?
