I go to start a co op rivals match with a friend and it says i’m unable to join or invite him because the players platform is not compatible with my platform. however we are both playing on PS5 with the respective version. idk what to do

Your on a different type of game I.e one is on old gen version and the other is on new gen
I just found out what my issue was…. Even though my friend and I both have the PS5, I accidentally downloaded the PS4 version of the game. Luckily I was able to download the PS5 version, gives you the option to do both, and everything transferred to my PS5 version Ultimate team account.
