Controller not working on pc in online lobbies

When im playing crossplay on pc with my xbox friend on ultimate team, my controller works in any solo game, but the second I go into any online match the inputs from the controller are either extremely delayed or just straight up dont work, its literally ruined the game and why would I want to spend 50 pound on a game that doesn't even let me play with my friends, its so stupid that I cant even refund the game because I didn't notice it till after the 2 hour period for steam refunds as I tried career mode first. The game is impossible to play with mouse and keyboard so the fact that the controller isn't optimised is just straight stupid
