L2 pass bug

When I try to make a pass using the L2 button — for example, an incisive pass — it doesn’t always work. Even when playing with someone who has PS+  or (white) incisive, the pass only works inconsistently. Sometimes, in situations where I want to make a pass, my player just keeps running with the ball instead, which often leads to losing possession, and it’s really frustrating. Could this be because of my controller, or is it due to the player’s positioning?
