One quick thing to check that can sometimes clear this up is deleting all squads and then creating an empty squad before logging back into Ultimate Team.
Another option is to try signing into UT on a different platform entirely. If you can get in on another platform, back out to the main menu and close the game before retrying on your normal platform.
Aside from deleting squads and recreating an empty one, any other changes you can try on the web app that might affect the state of your club can be worth a shot as well - changing or renaming the active squad, listing and removing a player from the transfer market, etc.
