Hi man, you need to make sure the player's primary position is LW, not just that they can play there - for example, all of Eden Hazard's cards can play at LW, none of them have LW as their primary position. To check what a player's primary position is, either look for their position on their card while it's in your club not your team, or search for their name on FUTBIN, but don't press enter - all of their cards should show up, with their primary position just to the right of their name. Still, make sure that once you've got a player whose primary position is LW, you play them at LW in your team, not any other position.
