How does the gauntlet matchmaking work?

Is it based on your division at all..? Or what are the factors determining my opponent pool? I know how The 1. 2 and 3 matches work so not asking that.

Im just wondering since i'm in div4 and its honestly close to impossible to get 3 wins in a row.
