I've currently played 8 games of squad battles this week, and the change to the way the AI plays is noticeable. Not nearly as much time wasting, I'm noticing that the lower rated teams on legendary, still play well above their stats but they are a lot more open to counters and defensive errors. It feels like it has been a successful change, and they definitely don't sit on your players like they used to, you just have to be wary of the fact that because they attack more they are likely to create more chances.
I have noticed that the game seems to always find ways to make opportunities for the AI, such as tackles rolling right to the opposing player and my players heading the ball right to the feet of the opponent when they try a lob ball and I'm literally trying to make a 5 yard headed pass to my player. There are other weird things that happen, but I haven't played enough currently to know if they are consistent.
As for the point change, it's literally about an extra 100 - 200 points on each difficulty level if the AI doesn't score, it's nothing major but could still affect some people. I'm on track to get around 33k points this week if things go as planned, and can say that it has been a net positive change for me personally.
It's definitely done a lot to change the feel of squad battles, I just faced a 90 rated team with 91 Henry and 95 Maradona amongst other Icons and expensive players, and although the AI was insane going forward the way the team was set up made it easy to break through and create chances, especially since the AI wasn't constantly hanging on to players.
It was still hard, but overall I find it was more of a reasonable challenge than what I was seeing before. The AI still passes, shoots, and attacks like it's cracked out, but at least it is actually coming forward and not wasting my time with 200 pointless passes that are literally just to waste time.
