One of the Most Frustrating, Unfair Competitive Gaming Experiences

I am absolutely fed up with EA SPORTS FC. At this point, I am not just disappointed with the game. I am disgusted by the direction this franchise has taken and the apparent lack of respect for the people who continue to spend their money, time, and energy on it.

Let me make one thing clear: I am not complaining because I cannot handle losing. I am complaining because losing fairly and losing because the game feels fundamentally broken are two completely different things.

I can accept being outplayed by a better opponent. What I refuse to accept is a competitive football game in which player responsiveness, movement, passing, physical battles, and overall gameplay consistency can feel completely different from one match to another.

1. WHY DOES THE GAME BECOME HEAVIER DURING MATCHES?

One of the most infuriating problems is the gameplay becoming progressively heavier and less responsive, even when the FPS counter remains stable and the connection appears fine.

My players start a match feeling reasonably responsive, and then the entire game begins to feel sluggish. Turning becomes delayed. Passing feels inconsistent. Player switching and movement become frustrating. Actions that should happen instantly suddenly feel as though they are being processed through mud.

Meanwhile, my opponent can appear to move freely and react much faster.

My ping can remain around 10–15 ms, and my FPS counter does not necessarily drop, yet the gameplay feels dramatically worse.

So what exactly am I supposed to do? Upgrade my internet when the ping is already low? Buy a new PC when the FPS counter is stable? Change my settings endlessly to compensate for a game that cannot deliver consistent responsiveness?

A stable FPS counter does not prove that gameplay responsiveness is consistent. A low ping does not excuse delayed controls.

EA needs to investigate input latency, frame pacing, simulation consistency, and any technical issues that cause gameplay to feel heavier without an obvious FPS or network warning. Telling players to troubleshoot their own systems is not an adequate substitute for investigating the game itself.

2. COMPETITIVE FAIRNESS FEELS LIKE A JOKE

This is the part that makes me genuinely furious.

There are matches where I feel that the game has already decided which player is going to have the easier experience. My players become sluggish, simple passes go wrong, physical duels make no sense, and the opponent seems to get away with things that my team cannot.

It feels as though the game decides who gets to play fluidly and who has to fight against their own controls.

I cannot prove that EA deliberately determines individual match winners, and I am not claiming to have access to evidence of such a system. But when the gameplay repeatedly feels this inconsistent, it is entirely reasonable for players to question the integrity of the competitive experience.

If EA wants players to trust the fairness of its competitive modes, it needs to give them a reason to trust them.

Do not expect players to accept every absurd animation, inexplicable collision, unresponsive defender, failed pass, or sudden shift in gameplay as nothing more than bad luck.

If competitive matches are supposed to reward skill, then the game must provide a consistent environment in which skill can actually determine the outcome.

Otherwise, what exactly are players competing in?

3. THE META HAS DESTROYED SQUAD-BUILDING FREEDOM

Ultimate Team is supposed to be about building your dream team, discovering players you love, experimenting with different combinations, and creating a squad that reflects your own preferences.

Instead, competitive play increasingly feels dictated by the meta.

You can spend hours building a team around players you genuinely enjoy, only to feel pressured to replace them with whichever cards currently offer the most competitive advantages.

What is the point of having thousands of players in the game if competitive viability pushes everyone toward the same types of cards and the same predictable approach?

Squad-building should encourage creativity. It should not punish players for choosing footballers they actually want to use.

The market, progression systems, and endless pursuit of increasingly desirable cards already demand significant time and attention. The least EA could do is make the actual football enjoyable.

4. THE PHYSICAL INTERACTIONS AND AI ARE ABSURD

The physical battles can be ridiculous. Players with seemingly impossible positioning or momentum win collisions, while other situations produce outcomes that make little footballing sense.

The AI can be infuriatingly unreliable. Defensive positioning, attacking runs, player reactions, and loose-ball situations can feel inconsistent and unintelligent.

There is a difference between football being unpredictable and a football game feeling arbitrary.

Unpredictability is part of the sport. Unexplained, inconsistent, and seemingly irrational gameplay outcomes are a design problem.

Players should not have to spend every match wondering whether their defenders will react properly, whether their attackers will make an obvious run, or whether a physical collision will follow any recognizable logic.

5. CHAMPIONS HAS BECOME A TEST OF PATIENCE, NOT SKILL

Champions should be a competitive mode where players test themselves against one another.

Instead, my experience became so frustrating that I started feeling anxious before even entering a match. I knew that if the gameplay became heavy, my players stopped responding properly, or another ridiculous situation occurred, I could end up furious all over again.

During one Champions campaign, I lost seven matches that I believe were significantly affected by these gameplay problems.

I am not claiming that every one of those matches would certainly have been a win under different circumstances. I am saying that I did not feel I was getting a consistent opportunity to compete on equal terms.

Think about how ridiculous that is: I bought a game to enjoy football, build a team, and compete. Instead, I reached the point where I was afraid to press the button to start a match because I knew how angry the experience could make me.

That is not healthy competition. It is not an enjoyable gaming experience. And it is certainly not what a premium game should aspire to deliver.

6. STOP TREATING PLAYER FRUSTRATION AS A PROBLEM WITH THE PLAYERS

Whenever people criticize a competitive game, it is easy to dismiss their complaints as excuses from people who cannot accept defeat.

That response completely misses the point.

Players can accept losing. They can accept mistakes. They can accept that an opponent is better.

What they should not have to accept without question is inconsistent responsiveness, frustrating gameplay bugs, questionable physical interactions, unreliable AI, and a competitive environment that leaves them doubting whether their performance actually matters.

EA needs to distinguish between complaints about losing and complaints about the integrity of the experience itself.

Listening to criticism does not mean agreeing with every player. It means investigating recurring problems, communicating honestly, and demonstrating that feedback can lead to meaningful improvements.

7. YOU ARE LOSING THE TRUST OF THE PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THIS GAME

The most frustrating thing is that Ultimate Team has genuinely enjoyable elements. I love building a squad, improving it, discovering players, and working toward a goal.

But none of that matters if playing matches becomes an ordeal.

I have now sold my Ultimate Team players and uninstalled FC 27. I am done spending my time fighting against a game that I bought to enjoy.

I should be able to look forward to playing a match, not feel nervous about whether the gameplay will be responsive enough to make the experience tolerable.

I should be able to lose to a better player, learn from the match, and move on. I should not finish a session feeling that the game itself was the biggest obstacle to playing football.

And I should not have to repeatedly adjust my expectations downward just to tolerate a product that is marketed as a premium competitive football experience.

EA, stop hiding behind the size of the franchise and start taking the quality of the actual gameplay seriously.

Investigate the causes of inconsistent responsiveness. Address the technical problems that make gameplay feel heavy. Improve physical interactions and AI behavior. Make competitive modes feel genuinely fair. Stop allowing the meta to suffocate squad-building creativity.

Most importantly, stop treating player frustration as an inevitable side effect of competition.

It is your responsibility to build a game worth playing. It is not the player's responsibility to convince themselves that a frustrating experience is acceptable.

I did not uninstall FC 27 because I cannot lose. I uninstalled it because I no longer believe the frustration is worth the enjoyment I get in return.

And if a game can make a player who genuinely loves building a football team afraid to play an actual match, then something has gone seriously wrong.

I do not want another promotional campaign, another new set of cards, or another promise that the next update will make everything better. I want a football game that feels responsive, consistent, fair, and enjoyable to play.

That should be the bare minimum.

The fact that players have to keep asking for it is embarrassing.

  • Valid points.

There is no cohesion in the team during build up play. There is no nuanced play, subtle dribbles, build up play does not exist. This game is very binary - like an arcade game.

The game quietly favours the high OVR players and play styles, which ends up breaking real football physics. If you couple this with the input delays, you can forget enjoying the game. It is a very frustrating experience.
