FC 27 PC – System Crashes, BSOD (0xEF, 0x7A, 0x154) and Boot Failures
Title: FC 27 PC – Repeated full-system crashes (0xEF / 0x7A / 0x154), Windows boot failures and SSD detection issues
Hello EA Support Team,
I would like to report a serious technical issue with EA SPORTS FC 27 on PC, which has resulted in repeated system crashes and Windows boot failures.
My PC specifications:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI
- RAM: 32 GB DDR5 6000 MHz
- SSD: Samsung 990 PRO 2 TB (Windows 11)
- Secondary SSD: WD_BLACK 1 TB
- Platform: Steam + EA App
- Operating system: Windows 11
What happened
My computer was working normally before these incidents.
Starting on October 9, EA SPORTS FC 27 repeatedly triggered full-system freezes and unexpected restarts. These were not ordinary game crashes: Windows itself stopped functioning.
Following the repeated crashes, my PC became unstable even outside the game, sometimes crashing during Windows startup or immediately after signing in.
Windows also displayed UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME (0xED) and entered automatic repair.
On several occasions, my Samsung 990 PRO disappeared from the list of physical drives in Windows Recovery, although the ASUS BIOS still detected it.
Windows Event Viewer results
I collected diagnostic logs documenting 16 Kernel-Power Event ID 41 entries across October 9–10, including:
- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF): 7 occurrences
- KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (0x7A)
- UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION (0x154)
- KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E), with STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR (0xC0000006)
- CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILED (0x5A)
Windows also repeatedly failed to create crash dump files (volmgr Event ID 161).
Troubleshooting already performed
- Windows System Restore
- SSD physical connection checked and reseated
- Samsung Magician SMART diagnostics: Good
- Samsung short diagnostic scan: Passed
- Media/Data Integrity Errors: 0
- NVMe Error Information Log Entries: 0
- CHKDSK: No errors detected
- Samsung firmware: 8B2QJXD7
- EXPO/PBO settings temporarily returned to Auto during troubleshooting
The SSD now appears to be functioning normally after reseating it, but I have not established the underlying cause.
I understand that the storage problem may also have an independent hardware or firmware cause. I am not claiming that FC 27 has been proven to damage the SSD.
My questions to EA
- Is EA aware of FC 27 triggering full Windows crashes and BSODs on PC?
- Is there an ongoing investigation into EA Javelin Anti-Cheat or driver-related kernel crashes?
- Is a specific fix planned for these full-system crashes?
- Can this report be escalated to the PC technical team?
I can provide detailed Windows Event Viewer logs, screenshots and a DxDiag report.
I have seen other PC players reporting similar symptoms, including CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF).
I would appreciate a technical response, as these crashes have made my computer temporarily unusable.
Thank you.
