The game has been poor for quite a while now because EA spends all its time putting out cards and devising new and elaborate ruses to extract money from users (Exhibit A: draft vouchers and their crappy odds; Exhibit B: Shards 2.0 with the ludicrous cost of meta cards). In the process, EA has not invested NEARLY enough in updating the game engine. Instead, they keep tinkering around the edges and, as we saw with this latest update, they just make matters worse.
The game has never been sludgier and less fun to play than it is right now. It’s astonishing how heavy everything feels and the problem is that we can have no reason to expect it to change. With EA about to be taken over by private equity it seems obsessed with squeezing more revenue from users and it appears to have totally lost sight of actually producing a fun, realistic football game.
