This seems to be a global issue following the recent update. Players in my league and on my Discord server are all experiencing inconsistent latency across various game modes, even outside of P2P or H2H play. Similar talk is seen across various FCM related Discord servers (or other portals such as Reddit). While I’m not usually one to jump on the “EA servers are running off potatoes” bandwagon (as you’ve probably seen, I’ve posted plenty of times explaining how networks actually work), this time it’s different. It genuinely looks like there are serious server-side issues.
I tested it with another player using an uncongested 10Gbps internet connection in a telco lab, with high-end network gear configured by network engineers. I was on an S25+, and the other player was using one of the recent iPhone Max models. We were connected to different SSIDs via separate access points and also tested with different 5G cell sites on various providers. Obviously, without visibility into EA’s network setup, we could only assess from a network engineer’s perspective, where even a basic packet sniff showed delayed or missing responses from the EA side.
In short, both players observed the same kind of lag. Green latency icons, but players moving like they’re on an ice rink, followed by high ping indicators and occasional network disruption messages. Sometimes, the high ping indicators appeared even when there was no visible lag, making the whole situation feel inconsistent and the visual data unreliable. Several core game functions outside of playing P2P or PVE matches showed connectivity issues at the same time, regardless of which networks we were using to play FCM.
This strongly suggests overloaded servers rather than the usual complaints about global matchmaking. The issues only started after the update. You could pick almost any user, check their network logs, and likely see the same results. Happy to provide my UID and take this offline if needed.
