Well said. The microtransaction model seems to be incompatible with a realistic football app. “If it’s in the game, it’s in the game” has fallen by the wayside. EA has replaced it with a football-themed casino.
I think we’ve all experienced what the original poster describes and it’s absolutely infuriating. On the one hand it makes sense that EA thinks increasing competitiveness will increase engagement and, theoretically, revenue. So why not give weaker teams a boost? But what confounds me is how EA doesn’t see that this approach infuriates everyone who has spent massive amounts of time and/or money to obtain top players only to have them perform inconsistently.
And that’s really the crux of the EA’s current FCM business model (and why it’s deeply flawed and doomed to fail). They seem to believe that player card’s have some sort of intrinsic value (based on their ratings) and that they can induce us to spend $$$ on them even if the matchplay (i.e., actually using the cards to play football!) isn’t consistently fun. It’s patently obvious based on recent actions that EA is struggling to generate revenue and that they are opting to double-down on the microtransaction/casino approach to try and coerce F2Pers into becoming P2Pers. All the while they are ignoring the MOUNTAIN of feedback we’ve provided in these forums about how to create REAL value — by improving matchplay! The game is worth spending $$$ on if it’s consistently fun, but there aren’t enough addictive personalities in the world to support a football app that is based solely on obtaining player cards.
So, the issue the original post raises ought to be addressed. If player cards are to hold real value then player ratings need to mean something and it shouldn’t change or become wildly erratic (as is too often the case) between (or during) matches. Player performance and, more generally, match mechanics in H2H and VSA mode (but, increasingly “challenge” mode as well) need to be consistent and fun. Fix this and you’ve got a product that I (and plenty of others) would be happy to spend our money on. Keep ignoring posts like this one and you’ll never see a dime from us. It’s that simple.
