Resource Download Error

I was playing the app on my 9th generation iPad (with a fully up to date version of iOS) when it suddenly flashed a message that a new download was available. I had no choice but to tap continue, at which point it started to reload. But then the app reload failed and gave me a “Resouce Download Error” message (see attached screenshot). I tried closing the app and reloading but got the same message on repeated attempts. I then went to the App Store to see if I could re-download the update, but none was available. The error message indicates I need to re-establish my internet connection (which I’ve checked and is still performing fine) or create more local storage space (which can’t be the issue because I have more than 20 GB free space), but this can’t be right. Can anyone tell me what’s going on and what I can do to fix it? Thanks!
