While playing Mass Effect: Legendary Edition on PC I ran into a pretty significant error/bug involving a black screen. I'm in the first game and I completed the encounter with Saren on Virmire where you get him down to around half health and then flees and the Normandy arrives to pick you up, but once the Normandy arrives the screen goes black for me. I can hear my character walking, I can fire my gun, and I can pull up the start menu and see that, but the screen itself remains completely black and I am unable to progress at all beyond this point. I attempted multiple times to replay this part, using both my own save and the game's auto-generated save, and had no luck. On Twitter a representative from EA's support team advised me to uninstall and reinstall the game, so I tried that and still was met with the same game-breaking bug, just as before...

i just ran into the issue lastnight and im playing on the xbox one x version and i deffently do not want to save ashley or even re start my game just to probbly run into the same issue

Unfortunately too late for me to choose who I want to save in my playthrough, given my save point. But that is good to know for other players for sure.I really, really hope that this is remedied soon; I've never played ME before, have been absolutely loving it, and now I'm just up against a brick wall...

I found a workaround but had to choose the person at the AA gun rather than the bomb

After getting Sarren down to 50% health on Virmire, after the cut scene of picking the person at the bomb up, the game cuts to black and nothing further happens visually. You can hear the characters and can move them about/fire your gun. But no further cutscene plays, and you are unable to progress.
Platform is Series X, and I have reinstalled the game three times, and beaten the fight four times now, same issue everytime. Just want to play through. ☹️
Getting a bit frustrating doing it over and over again on Insanity for it to black screen again .

From what I've found this is an old bug (dating back to 2013) the only known workaround is to not use abilities, since I'm playing on insanity that won't work for me but maybe it helps some others. Would be pretty nice to get a fix to that 8 year old bug at some point

@bstnsx704 Your latest auto save should be before you decided who to save if I'm not mistaken

I can confirm reloading the autosave and going after the person you sent to AA gun instead of the bomb worked for me also. Thanks for posting the workaround. Not the choice I wanted to play through the entire trilogy with but I'll take it over restarting.
