Bug? HUD is *way* too big in ME2 (Legendary Edition).

Hi all.  Apparently this is an issue with a lot of UltraWide monitors (21:9 , 3440x1440 resolution for me) in ME2.  The HUD is massive and distracting.  This was not a problem at all in ME1's LE version, the HUD size was fine.  Furthermore, text/subtitle size is HUGE and sometimes nearly in the middle of the screen, and not closer to the bottom where it should be.

I've also included a few reddit posts where lots of others are having this problem, and they can't even fix it with popular ultrawide support software.

See here:  https://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/comments/nf6l60/legendary_edition_me2_and_me3_i_expect_hud_is/

And here:  https://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/comments/nebet7/legendary_edition_me2_hud_is_too_large_ultrawide/

Please look into this BioWare/EA?  Thanks a bunch.  Screenshots attached of stuff I mentioned from my 1st paragraph.

  • Hey, I play on 32:9 and have managed to make it "work".  I Flawless Widescreen and enabled UI scaling, make sure constrain to 16:9 is enabled.  This will cause the game to treat the UI as if it is on a 16:9 monitor while the rest of the game is unimpeded.  Hopefully that will help.

    Question for you!  Please see my latest reply, just above your post.  When you use the software (FWS) to constrain the HUD/UI to 16:9, does it completely screw up the placement of your enemy's hitboxes?  Like, the red "square" that goes around whichever enemy your crosshair is on.

    When I do, it fixes the over-sized HUD problem, but makes it so this that red enemy outline/hitbox/reticle is FAR off from the actual enemy itself.  That's what I mean by un-playable.  ☹️  So I either deal with a huge HUD for *some* reason (the original purpose of this whole thread), or I can fix the HUD/UI, but can't properly target enemies in combat worth a damn.

    Damned if I do, damned if I don't situation.  =\  Hope this is fixed soon.  I know it's just a HUD/UI thing, but it's making me put off playing the entire game... ☹️

    @St33lPh4nt0m

    It indeed replaces some of the "hitboxes" for me as well.

    But you still will hit the enemy if you aim correctly at the enemy, regardless of Weapon or Power.

    I however play with K&M, so this might be different if you play with a controller.

    FYI, Flawless Widescreen software does fix this HUD-size problem if you check the box that says "HUD Scaling" and the dropdown under it to say "Constrain HUD to 16.9".

    HOWEVER @Developers/BioWare/EA:  This causes a completely separate problem when doing this.  It fixes the size of the HUD, but then completely breaks/* your Enemy Outline/Hitbox red squares, making the game nearly unplayable when you think an enemy is 10 yds to the right behind a box, but it's really 10 yds to the left. >=(

    I've attached a screenshot of this problem (in case my description above sucks) that's existed since the original ME2 release.

    PLEASE FIX THIS!  See my thread on this issue with several more screenshots about the HUD size, and eventual conclusion about this terrible hitbox/outline issue too.

  • Yep.  Also play on Keyboard/Mouse.  Powers will still go where your crosshair is, for sure.  It's just very jarring/annoying thinking an enemy is behind a box way off to the right... when he's shooting at you way off from the left, ya know?

    =(  I'd honestly almost deal with a bigger annoying HUD than wrong/false hitboxes/reticles.

    @All

    I merged the second thread into the main thread about this issue.

    Please click the "Me too" button in the OP, this will be more relevant than a second thread.

  • Bump.  Been a week since threads were merged and stuff, and I'm just bored on my weekend.  Figured I'd pop this back to the first page, in case any others ran into the same issue(s) this weekend and wanted to hit that "Me Too" button that Holger mentions.

    This definitely would be a greatly appreciated fix for all us ultra-wide users, so the "bump" is solely to bring it more attention on this page, Google search results, etc.  =)

  • BUMP'ing this just because it's been a couple more weeks, in case others have these issues and wanna voice it, hit the "Me Too" button, etc.  =)

  • Have the same issue. So, basically at the current moment ME2 LE is unplayable on ultrawide screen. We have the following options:

    1. Play with oversized HUD which is very distracting
    2. Use FlawlessWidescreen and force HUD to 16:9 which breaks enemies hitboxes

    There might be a third option - set game resolution to some 16:9 equivalent and play with black bars on the sides (which is suitable for me personally). But this is impossible - instead the 16:9 image is stretched to cover the screen.

    Thank you very much, Bioware, for making it almost unplayable for ultrawide monitors owners. Epsecially when ultrawide support was one of the major features advertised for the PC.

  • BUMP'ing yet again.  Playing Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag until there's a fix to the issue(s) I've posted here, and it makes me sad cause ME2 is my favorite one!  =(
