BUG ME2:LE Crashing on Haestrom during Tali Dossier mission

This problem began early morning Sunday, 06/06/21.

When attempting the dossier mission on Haestrom, I can get as far as the first door that you are supposed to open after learning to stay in the shadows. When I approach the door, the game attempts to load the dialogue audio that is supposed to play, but then freezes before crashing to the trilogy select screen. The audio has successfully loaded one time, but the game still froze as it played before crashing. I have lost count of how many times this has now occurred.

I have followed all of the recommended steps to correct this, but nothing has worked.

I have verified my files.

I have updated my driver.

I have disabled all hardware monitors.

I have disabled all overlays.

I have turned off V-Sync.

I have ran these steps multiple times. I play on Steam. Each time I run the verification, it has taken several hours and between 8 and 11 files have been replaced.

Less than a week ago, my wife ran this same mission on the same PC on the same account with no problems at all. In fact, she has ran all 3 games with no problems this way. The only difference between her and me is that I use a controller and she uses a keyboard. Yes, I have tried playing it without a controller.

I have been able to load into a previous save and have been able to do other activities, but that mission will not progress. The game has ran very smooth up to this point.

System Specs:

Ryzen 7 3750H

GeForce GTX 1650

8GB RAM

I have 3 possible audio outputs and I have tried with all 3.

Built-in Realtek speakers, Crashed at door with no audio clip.

Headphone jack, Crashed at door with no audio clip.

ASUS VG249 Monitor Speakers via HDMI (This is what I normally play it through), Audio clip begins, but still crashes at door.

Checked all drivers and it says they're all up to date.

    dxdiag results attached.

Wife played all 3 games through all 3 outputs depending on whatever setting I left my computer on (Headset technically runs through the same Realtek driver as speakers and I play some online games with friends). Not sure what output she was using when running through Haestrom.

@Boomer_Fynix  It may or may not have anything to do with these crashes, but your C drive has less than 5 GB free.  Clearing another 15+ GB would be ideal, but another 5 should at least eliminate this as a source of the issue.

Please also run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but Steam and all of my games are installed on my D:\ drive that has over 3TB available.

I didn't realize I was running that low on space so I cleaned up my HD and was able to free up an extra 20GB on my C:\ drive.

I ran the PowerShell commands for both drives just to be sure.

@Boomer_Fynix  It looks like sfc accomplished something, at least.  Does the game work now?  If not, please try playing in a clean boot:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clean-boot-windows-10

When you reboot, go through the Task Manager's background processes list and shut down anything that doesn't absolutely need to be running, so basically anything other than Windows services and your graphics drivers.  If you use a third-party antivirus, please disable that as well, at least long enough to test.

I ran a clean boot just as instructed, but it didn't seem to help. On a hunch I ran yet another file verification in the clean boot and after 2 hours it found and fixed 12 more files. I restored my boot settings and restarted my system. I'm not sure what happened, but I was finally able to move forward! I played a few minutes before creating a new save. Whatever the problem was, it seems to be fixed. Thanks for the help! Here's hoping it lasts!

@Boomer_Fynix  It's possible that your antivirus prevented the original repair from working properly, or that some other service did.  It's also possible that the original repair didn't work for no good reason.  (I like to blame Origin.)  Whatever the case, I'm glad to hear you can play now.
