How to force squad members to use the correct weapon for their strongest talent?

I've just noticed with Tali'Zorah that, despite her not having an Assault Rifle talent at all and her Pistol talent maxed out, she always has the Assault Rifle equipped, meaning putting all those points into pistol talents was a waste of time. What's going on? Come to think of it, as an Infiltrator with Pistols and Sniper Rifle maxed out, why the hell must I have Shotgun and Assault Rifle in my inventory? When I use the mouse wheel to switch weapons I have to make sure to scroll over Shotgun and AR. I'd rather just have the two weapons I'm proficient with in the scrolling list.

I'm beginning to remember just how derpy some of the inventory and weapon loadout management systems were in this game when it first released. In addition to spending time improving the more superficial visual aspects of the game I wish the devs would have also revisited some of the other game systems and added quality of life imrpovements and better design :/

  • Yes, the inventory still feels bad and the weapons choice system could had been reworked, npc's could had a better ai when choosing their weapons

More and more I'm seeing this Remaster should have had more done than simply doing the easy thing and polishing up the eye-candy visuals.  :/

Yes, it's still happening - patch was just a few gfx fixes. You need to re-assign the correct weapon every time you deploy with any character.

It's awesome we got a remaster, but I'll always wish it had been a remake.

@AugustsEve I feel that the fact that they have changed up some things in ME1 makes the annoyance stemming from these shortcomings stronger. Take Ubisoft's Ezio Trilogy for example: it was never advertised as anything special, only a remaster, and it's an okay remaster even for Series consoles now that we have FPS boost enabled.

But by making bare minimum gameplay changes in ME1, they emphasised how much more could (and should) have been done.
