Mass Effect Legendary crashing on splash screen for only ME3

My game is on steam. It will immediately "crash" back to the Legendary edition screen where you choose a game after stalling at the splash screen for ME3. ME1 and ME2 both work perfectly fine. Important note that I have played up until Tuchanka on ME3 and this issue materialized. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, I have turned off steam/origin in game pop ups. Still no luck.

This means that one or a few save games or the profile file are corrupted, most however should be intact.

The only way to find out which are corrupt and which are not is trial and error.

It is very likely that on of the last save games you made is the culprit.

Create a ME3 folder in the "Documents\Bioware\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save" folder and folders for your characters as they are in the folder on your desktop.

Then copy a few saves back and test until the game is no longer starting.

    Thanks for tagging @Fred_vdp ! 🙂

    • Make sure Origin and Steam are closed.
    • Go to your "<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games 3\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Game\ME3\BioGame" folder.
    • Delete the "Config" folder.
    • Test.
  • I do not have an associated folder for Mass Effect Legendary Eddition under Origin games. Perhaps be cause it is in steam primarily? Should I try removing the config file in steamapps?

Sorry, my bad. The right path is: "<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Game\ME3\BioGame"

    OK:

    • Make sure Origin and Steam are closed.
    • Go to your "Documents\Bioware\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save" folder.
    • Move the "ME3" folder to your desktop.
    • Test
  • That did the trick. I made it into the ME3 start screen at least. However, am I now missing all my save files? Any way to recover those files?
