ME2 Interrupts Not Appearing

I'm having an issue on PC where the paragon and renegade interrupts for certain interactions aren't appearing at all. So far I've been unable to even have the option to hug Tali during her loyalty mission or punch the reporter during her interview.

Edit: The shooting Grunt interrupt also doesn't appear when you wake him, as well as pointing the gun at Pitne For on Illium during Samara's recruitment.

    Try to repair the game.

(Origin > Game Library > right click MELE > Repair)
(Steam > Game Library > right click at MELE > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

How high are your paragon and renegade bars??  Some of these actions need fairly high bars, and if you have visited every main core world, you raise the amount needed for every core world visited.  The system works by my understanding as a % of how much you have versus how much you have unlocked and MAY have.  So if you have unlocked multiple worlds but haven't done the quests there, you may have say 25% of the total possible you can have of Paragon/Renegade and the interrupt needs say 50% of what you CAN have.  If you are on PC, then you can use a save editor to add Paragon/Renegade points and see if it makes a difference.

  • It's possible they changed some of these interrupts to only trigger under certain (more restrictive) conditions.

Like I thought that punching the reporter was only possible for a full renegade now (though I haven't confirmed any changes myself).

    Are you sure?

If that would be true I would never see a renegade interrupt but they are always there for me.

So I think they are not bound to the amount of Paramount or Renegade points.

    Interrupts have no requirements.

"Unlike Charm and Intimidate, Shepard is not required to have any minimum amount of Paragon or Renegade points in order for an interrupt to be presented. All characters will encounter the interrupt at the appropriate time, assuming they made the correct dialogue choices to reach that interrupt as described below (if any)."

Interrupts can still have other requirements, and it's possible they added paragon/renegade (and other) checks to the remaster.

They did say they were adjusting stuff around the system and removing some of the sketchy content (like randomly punching a woman for comedic effect).

I'm pretty sure I've read complaints that you couldn't punch the reporter anymore if you weren't renegade, so I suspect this is a case of intentional adjustments (or missed conditions in the case of the Grunt interrupt) than a bug, unless other people are seeing different behavior.

I still could have punched the reporter and I was a clear Paragon.

Imho it also would make no sense to change the requirements of the interrupts.
They don’t have any requirements in the old games so why now?
They are addition to the dialogue system, not actions to persuade someone.
I think this was just a glitch.

@mcsupersport My paragon was full when I ran Tali's loyalty mission. Grunt's interrupt works fine on console at a lower renegade than what I had at the time on PC (around 30%) and the reporter one as I understand it should show up no matter what, that's how it's always worked in the past and still works on console for me. I was around 50% renegade for Samara's recruitment mission.
