ME2 on PS3 - Game crashing / PS3 freezing

I've had this problem twice now, and I can't seem to fix it.  ME2 is freezing at the same spot, and it forces me to hard-reboot my PS3.  After that I can't load ME2 at all without doing a file system restore.

It occurs at the loading screen to the quarantine area on Omega.  This is happening when I first get access to it.  The loading screen will stop loading, and my PS3 completely locks up.

Anyone else having this problem??

I've cleaned the disc, deleted and redownloaded the game data, deleted and redownloaded the patch, used an earlier save, set my PS3 to factory settings, and yet nothing has worked. The game stays stuck on the loading screen forever. It doesn't "freeze" per se, but it never actually loads the level.

I've also googled this but I couldn't find anyone else who's had the same issue.

I bought the game used, so it could be that, but I'm hoping it isn't.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you attempted loading from a prior save to the one you're using, then proceeding to that point?

Don't know if this problem was already fixed in this forum, I just installed mass effect 2 in my new ps3 slim, 2 days ago. I was able to play like 6 hours without problems, but suddenly I began to have constantly freeze in random scenes and when it gets to loading it crashes forcing me to turn off the system. I have read in several forums about this, that there are patches that fix this and stuff, the problem is that I have the 1.04 version and Im not sure is the last one. Is there any way to fix this without erasing my data?

    Please help

Unfortunately, I gave up on the PS3 version of ME2...  The issues would not go away.  I'd be able to get a bit further, then it would happen again.

Now playing on PC with no problems whatsoever.

It's four years since the launch of ME2.  ME3 has long since been out and I just had a very similar issue.  After 40 hours of gameplay - forty very tedious hours of collecting resources, cultivating relationships, and fighting battles - the game froze dead in its tracks and I had to do a hard reboot.  When I brought my system back up, the game was available and could be easily played - but my save data was no longer available.  I could see the data in my save data utility, but the game wasn't recognizing it.  PSN techs told me to delete the game and download it from the PS Store all over again, but I've now wasted a good ten hours on that venture.  Everything I'm reading so far says that when this happens, it means the data on the game save is totally corrupted and you have to start over.

I am getting to the point where I will never waste another plugged nickel on any EA or Bioware products ever again.  Every single one of my Ubisoft games (mostly Assassin's Creed) has frozen, but I have NOT ONCE lost any save data on a single one of their games.  I never knew this was an issue until I started playing Mass Effect 2.  The fact that EA could be this incredibly lackadaisical in its response to a massive issue with a major product in its lineup tells me that they don't care about their customers.  If they have such a low level of concern for us then it's not worth it to invest a penny in their products.

  • I encountered this same problem, but I was playing on PC. I went into the Steam library, right clicked, and told steam to verify installation files.

Upon completion, it replaced 3 files and the problem was solved.

I wanted to mention it here in case anyone else comes, as I did, to search for a solution.🙂
