Re: How Would You Handle Having New Dialogue?

Absolutely not. Never put an exclamation point or anything over the head of a character. It totally ruins immersion. I like game mods that you can turn off the hud. Ever play without a map or health bar, entirely new experience. Part of roleplaying, having to explore and investigate. What I do like, is when they have new information on a subject, the lettering is highlighted on the discussion wheel or whatever it is called.

Even the chars in mass effect have maps and nav points 😆 playing without one would go against the story.
Same with all the dragon age games they also have carefully crafted maps.
Why would you ever play without a map?! Old civs draw maps, new civs have computers for maps. They all have maps.
  • There is a mod that turns off the map/status affects in Skyrim. All you see is scenery. It makes the game so much more difficult and realistic if your playing a hunter type character. I'm talking about the map on the screen. Not the one you open up. Kind of the difference between a paper map and gps on your phone.

I like the ME3 style.  there are 2 diff types of conversations.  The ones with people having something to say then you go into the whole conversation options and you get new things, with new words to describe the new topics. not the same cr*p over and over again and conversations are still grey even if there are new topics.  The second type is just short 1 way conversations, Eg Go to Garrus click on him, he says some random stuff...  Click on him again, he says some more, click on him again and if he runs out of things to say, he will say "Not right now" or liara would say something like "ready for the next mission"  At least you know there will not be a conversation until the next mission is completed.  It adds lots of flavor to the game as well, some of these short conversations with EDI and Joker comes in and makes it a 3 way conversation are some of the best moments!

I really disliked those on ship auto dialogues in ME3 between Shep and crew tbh.
In combat and the nomad when you as the player are busy - its totally fine to be auto, better than a silent Ryder but on the ship when all is quite nope! I want a dialogue wheel and choices in how she responds there.

There is also a strange situation where like say the Personal Logs that are initially encrypted but if  you click them and it says still encrypted blah blah, then when it becomes available it still shows as you have "read" it so to speak.

This happens on other NPCs and stuff too occasionally.  Like it doesn't "renew" the status of the prompt since it changed.

Would also be nice if they improved the flow of NPC dialog as well.  Sometimes you have to visit a person 3-6 times to hear all they have to say about stuff depending on where you are/last time you were there.

  • +1 to the exclamation on their heads if they have new to say, with the ability to disable it if the player chooses.
