Requesting Admiral Hackett be promoted forthwith

Hey,

I figured this is the best way to get in contact with someone in the Alliance Brass who cares, there seems to have been a huge miscommunication. It seems though admiral Steven Hackett has an exemplary service record and holds more than dozen of commendations, he's been demoted for seemingly no reason.

It's not at all appropriate and if this doesn't get corrected, I'm going to have to bring this up with the Human ambassador to see it is corrected.

In all seriousness though, I've noticed mismatches with his uniforms that weren't in Mass Effect 3 previously, but show up in ME3's Legendary Edition version. List of images to follow:

Hackett ME3 VS MELE

Note the (officer's?) shoulder bars. Hackett has four in ME3 but is taken down to three in MELE. This does not apply in pre-rendered cutscenes where even in MELE, he retains his four bars, whereas in-game model displays three. Both of the following images are from MELE and show this inconsistency back to back in the same sequence:

Hackett's in-game model

Hackett's Pre-Rendered Model

Yes, this is a little detail that likely might bypass many but... I can't unsee after catching it.

Additionally, Anderson holds the rank of admiral, but in his formal uniform only holds three bars, while his tactical wear later on he's shown with four throughout. I'll chalk that up for an oversight as it was so in original ME3 as well, but this Hackett thing with MELE is new. Should be four bars, not three.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

EDIT: I've added Anderson's inconsistency with the officer's bars as well in images below.

  • Good catch!  I have an eye for this sort of thing and I'm surprised I didn't notice it myself.  Hopefully your post isn't ignored by the brass like mine was regarding the static lighting quality issue.

  • @Officer_Olanov The more we replay the LE the more issues we find. Out of all the things they could have changed they chose this to change, we get near perfect porting of some old bugs and glitches (a convesation between Ashley Williams and Liara T'soni not triggering when she gets in the Normandy after thr Coup, I suspect that before she starts saying "Hey there" she is suppossed to have said conversation and others with Shepard) yet assets that weren't an issue then are now an issue. The same thing happens with the Asari uniform in the Citadel DLC archives, they suddenly get Blue Suns coloration even when one is working for C-Sec and others were the first three who discovered the Keepers in this cycle.

@EA_Mako, what do you think, a grave oversight or just another thing in a long line of small issues that end up being a big thing?
  • @s1r_b1unt Thanks! Don't beat yourself up too much, I didn't notice it until at least few hours in.

Even if it isn't as huge an issue to me, the devil's in the details as they say, and the characters involved are fairly important. Though since it is a details thing, I can see how it could slip through or get low priority. Sorry to see the same has applied to the static lighting problem you've reported.

    @Officer_Olanov Thanks for catching this!

There were definitely some cases where in-game models were updated to have more consistency across the trilogy, though that doesn't quite make as much sense with Hackett as it may with other character models. Then there's still that inconsistency with the cutscene model and his tactical gear as you mentioned.

Appreciate the heads up on this one! 👍

  • Indeed. I think for the most part there's a lot more consistency across the trilogy in MELE, even beyond character design, so kudos to appropriate developers on all that. Especially on the visual upgrades. And many thanks to you for catching the message. 🙂

I've added the appropriate images showing the inconsistency with Anderson (carried over from original Mass Effect 3 to MELE), to help visualize the issue here as well as OP.

  • He's sharing the same texture as Anderson in ME3LE: (The list along the right is usage data)

They had two separate textures in the original release:
