The Legendary Edition treats all three games as a single application, which frequently triggers two specific Xbox glitches.
1. Clear Out Old ME1 Saves (Save Storage Quota Bug)
Xbox sets a strict storage memory cap per game title. Because ME1, ME2, and ME3 all share the same storage reserve on your Series S, a full play-through of ME1 with multiple auto-saves and manual saves often maxes out the allocated save space.
When you import that Shepard into ME2, the game attempts to create a brand-new career folder. If the cache is full, the Xbox silently drops the save command—showing the "Saving..." icon without actually writing the data to disk.
The Fix:
Boot up Mass Effect 1 inside the Legendary Edition. Open the Load/Save menu and manually delete all old quicksaves, autosaves, and unnecessary manual saves, leaving only your final end-game completion save.
Once cleared, launch ME2, re-import your Shepard, and try saving right after you wake up on the Cerberus station.
2. The Offline Import Bypass (EA Account Sync Glitch)
On Xbox Series S, importing an ME1 Shepard initiates an active background handshake with your EA Account to transfer profile metadata. If that connection stutters or gets desynced, the game enters a "ghost" state where it plays normally but disables disk writing.
The Fix:
Go to Xbox Settings > Network Settings and select Go Offline.
Launch Mass Effect Legendary Edition while offline.
Start ME2, select Import ME1 Character, and complete the opening sequence until you gain control.
Make a manual save. Verify that it actually appears in your Load/Save menu.
Once a valid save file is created on your hard drive, you can exit the game, turn your Xbox back online, and sync up normally.
3. Regenerate the ME1 End-Game Clear Save
Occasionally, ME1's final auto-generated "Game Complete" file registers in ME2 for character creation, but carries a read-only flag that prevents ME2 from creating a continuation save folder.
The Fix:
Load your last ME1 save right before the Saren/Citadel boss fight. Beat the final boss again and let the ending cutscenes and credits play completely through without skipping them. This forces the system to compile a fresh, uncorrupted completion file.
Note on Saved Data: If none of these immediately solve it, go to My Games & Apps > Mass Effect LE > Manage game and add-ons > Saved data, and select Delete from console (do NOT select "Delete everywhere"). This clears the local cache on your Series S and forces Xbox Cloud to re-download a fresh copy of your save data.
