- Anonymous8 years agoUnless you have the PS4 pro it's not going to be 4K, and even if you do it won't be native like on the xbox one x... it's hard to lock the frame rate at 60 in an open world racing game where you have long draw distances. I hardly think 30fps is unplayable, but suit yourself

If you've ever played a previous NFS game and said to yourself. "Self, this is so playable" Then you've successfully played a 30 fps game. Ever NFS game ever created has been 30 fps. The reasoning being that you can get a better image with a lower framerate.
Why do people make such a big deal over 60fps IMO 30fps is good enough. human reaction time is 250 milliseconds each frame at 30fps is displayed for 33 miliseconds (7 frames have gone by before you can react) so tell me how it makes a big difference or makes 30fps unplayable or not worth it. Yes 60fps is smoother and technically better but it is overkill IMO. my pc can handle 60 fps so i leave it on that but i have tried both and i did not feel that 60fps improved my experience at all, it felt the same to me.

Most early Black Box titles ran at 60 FPS on consoles, and despite many modern NFS games being limited to 30 FPS on console, many of them have the option of using 60 FPS on PC.

I don't really make a big deal out of 60 FPS, but when the opportunity is there, I will definitely trade graphics and maybe even resolution for a higher framerate:
-Quickest recorded reaction time is 100 milliseconds, meaning only 3 frames would go by if the fastest reacting person had to react to 30FPS.
-Supposedly, lower framerate can increase input lag.
-Although 30 FPS can make human animations look more natural, it's better for a physics-based game to have 60 FPS so that you can pick apart exactly what is happening and see the fine details unfold. (Ex: Suspension absorbing bumps) Also ties in with reactions, as being able to make out even the slightest of movement easier could help with reacting.
-60 FPS also requires less motion blur per frame to look smooth.

I should have been clearer. Every Console Version of Need For Speed has Run at 30 FPS maximum. Early PSX/PSone games ran at a fixed 24 fps which was the set framerate of the console. PS2 games ran at 30 fps +/-2 frames due to it's variable framerate refresh system (this is proven by the system PCSX2 which adopts the same system for framerate). All other consoles have run at 30 frames per second. Your recollection is flawed.

While I agree that 30fps is enough, this game has some serious issues with maintaining that. I have been playing the game on a standard PS4 which I bought at launch. At the moment the game is really struggling. Cars, trees, cops, barriers appearing out of nowhere right in front of me, the render distance and time is shockingly bad. After every cutscene, getting back into the gameplay my car will be invisible for around 10 seconds while it loads back in. The city will also be completely empty for a ridiculous amount of time because no other A.I. vehicles have loaded. Worst of all though are the cop chases and action scene missions. As soon as you get two or more cops or house drivers chasing you the frame will drop drastically. At one point in the first few missions I had about 4 cops and 3 house drivers chasing me, this resulting in the frame rate dropping to what I would guess was about 10, maybe 15 frames per second. This made the car almost undrivable because of how unresponsive it was. Let’s be honest here, this game doesn’t push the boundaries in terms of visuals or content and gameplay. It’s a pretty standard game, and yet somehow it fails to perform at 1080p 30fps. That is a joke for a game that costs £80 for the deluxe edition from a developer as big as EA.
Just as a quick side note, I was really impressed with the customisation they brought back for the 2015 revamp and they have now managed to go backwards with that as well. Instead of earning cash to purchase upgrades like you would in the real world, to upgrade performance of the car you have to purchase speed cards. These are completely random which means that to upgrade any car you find yourself having to spend stupid amounts of money to try and obtain the specific part you want. Then there’s the visual customisation, everything is locked and can only be unlocked by completing stupid challenges which early on in the game are actually quite difficult because of the quality of cars you have access to.
The game unfortunately then has become another game which is just a grind to complete, replaying the same races over and over to earn enough cash to get a random performance upgrade which may not even be an improvement. Want to put a body kit on your car, we’ll be prepared to grind drift runs, jumps, speed traps and other things just to do so.

I purchased the game yesterday and I start playing it immediatley after exiting NFS 2015. The problem is not the 30fps limit but the fps fluctuations, It feels like 20fps when you do a donut because of the smoke. And each time I drift a bit, because of the low fps caused by tire smoke and other particles, I loose control of the car a bit more than I should. One more thing that makes it a horrible experience for me is that the game has some kind of input delay compared to the NFS2015. SOmeone else noticed this? Overall the fault is shared between the devs that pushed their engine too far with an open world game and the PS4 that got old so quick. I also have the game on PC, origin, and it's the only game that has a bit of lag sometimes when loading the map. I have GTX1080 and i7-7700k, I think the game should have been optimized better.
- Anonymous8 years agoI agree. 60 fps is kind of essential in competitive MP, shooters, fast-paced games, fighting games maybe. But otherwise i really dont care. I played maybe sub 30 so many times and precisely locked at 30 fps with some motion blur (Looks really smooth to me).
- Anonymous7 years agoNfs payback is in 60fps on pc but not console, that is the point trying to be made here.
