Community ManagerYou get kicked when your teamplay grade drops too low. A couple of penalties plus poor teamplay could drop it low enough to get kicked. Things like going offside, icing the puck, losing faceoffs (if you're the center), contribute to your teamplay grade.
So take 2 penalties within a minute in OT and you get booted? Yeah seems like good code logic.
