New be a pro character instantly made captain

I started a new be a pro save after the 1.2.0 update and when I got through world juniors with Team USA and the Memorial Cup with the Penticton Vees, (i feel it should be noted my character was made the captain of the vees too), I joined the Tampa Bay Lightning and my character is instantly made the captain of the team. This doesnt make sense because what am I playing for if the C is handed to me right off the bat?
