I have a wired internet connection and use a wired controller. This setup worked perfectly until about a week ago

Let's go for a power cycle with the console first before we consider re-installing. It could be a caching issue in which a power cycle can easily fix. This is how to properly shut down your PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Power cycling the console is always a good first step in seeing if that fixes any technical issues being experienced in games. Let me know if that helps!

How to power cycle your PlayStation console

1. Touch the power button on the front of the PS4 for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice).
2. Turn it back on after 1 minute. Launch the game.

How to power cycle your Xbox console:

1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button  on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
2. Unplug the console’s power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

1. Plug the console power cable back in.
2. Press the Xbox button  on your console to turn on the Xbox One.

This almost seemed to make it worse. Normally it would start happening in the 2nd period and third period of a hut game or world of chel game, but after trying the fix it happens in the first through the end of the game

No should I try that next?

I uninstalled and reinstalled and the problems are still ocurring

Are you using official controllers or are they third party made controllers? I can really only advise trying one more controller to see if that's the issue. In Battlefield some players for PlayStation had issues with the sniper rifles not shooting because of the sensitivity for the trigger button being pressed too hard over time. Some people gently press buttons while other mash, which mashing can wear down response time. 

unistalling also made the issues more prominent and worse

Do you have any corrupted save files lingering for the game on your system?

Whenever we've came across these before it's came down to the controller, which is why I recommended trying out a brand new third one to see if there is any impact (unless the 2nd one you have was also brand new). 

We could always go the route of factory resetting the console, but I really don't want you to go to that extreme unless you don't mind.

My old controllers that I used on nhl 21 specifically were xbox official wireless ones. One of them broke and the second one was as old as my console (like 9 years) and has really bad input lag. My newest one is made by afterglow and is wired, and its maybe two-three months old and worked perfectly fine until like two weeks ago

I'm concerned it's the third party controller either suffering a hardware issue or some type of compatibility issue with our game and the console. Do you have any friends that can lend you a controller to see if it works or see if one is available to return to the store for a full refund if it's still doing the same thing in game?

What system are you playing on and which control scheme do you use (skill stick, hybrid or NHL 94)? Also, have you tried a different controller? Thanks!

Thanks. I have a few more questions for you. Does it happen with skill stick and hybrid as well? Have you tried them both wireless as well as plugged in? Has this always happened or did it just start recently?

As a test, can you try those other control schemes to see if the same thing is happening?

Sorry for the delay in reply.....No I didn't try the other control schemes as that is not how I play....I actually bought a new PS4 controller and it has the same issue. It doesn't happen more than a couple times a game, but it is irritating to say the least.
