Game won’t always recognise close approaches on Ping It Home challenge.

I have been struggling to complete the Ping It Home challenge, because I can’t seem to get 5 close approaches. However, I know I am successfully doing close approaches because my daily quest to do 5 was completed. So, this is clearly an issue within the challenge.
