I agree that this would be an impossible challenge if you aren't using spin control. I actually managed this in 2 tries with a level 99 character and decent spin. You just need to use a pick shot and spin the ball to counter the incorrect shots. It's definitely an annoying setup because of the random direction of the shots but if you are good at managing the spin mid-air you can make it within 5 feet most of the time pretty easily.
I have tried this as well. Maybe you can help. How do you use spin control? I have been tapping A while using the left directional stick to try to spin the ball in a certain direction as the controller settings say to, while the ball is midflight. However, using the left stick, will spin the camera angle around the ball and won’t actually induce the spin like the instructions say it should. Just curious if I’m doing it wrong or if this is one of the bugs that needs to get ironed out.
I use the right stick for my swing so I have to use L1 to control the amount of spin and then use the right stick to control the direction of the spin. I don't know specifically how it works when using the left stick, but I assume that A or L1 will add spin and the left or right stick should be used to control the spin direction. The other stick will should allow you to adjust the camera angle. In order to enable spin, make sure that you aren't playing on tour or sim settings and that spin control is set to 'on' in the game settings. If you still have problems I can try it out myself and see if it works properly later.
