Re: Swing Mechanics & the Aim Marker

Based on that last Q+A with Operation Sports, I have big concerns about the realism and challenge of the gameplay now ☹️

Developing distance control is a huge aspect of becoming a top level golfer, something even the best golfers in the world never completely master. It is a key factor of golf course design and what makes a hole like #12 at Augusta so formidable (ask Jordan Spieth about that!). EA's answer to the question about this gameplay element in that Q+A was very disappointing. They said it made chipping too disproportionately difficult to have a partial swing mechanic. Seems to me the solution (like real golf) is that their swing mechanic and controller input requirement should be progressively less dependent on speed of controller input as you move to the shorter approach shots and then finally chipping. These should be finesse shots where rhythm and backswing length are the primary determinants of determining shot landing distance.

My fear now is that even on the hardest difficulty level this game will have to offer, hitting 320+ yard drives and having robotic control of distance will be the norm after minimal playing time and it won't matter how pretty the courses look and how accurately they are depicted in-game, the gameplay will quickly get boring and monotonous.
