This is not a crash but I will label it as one as it effectively might as well be and there are no better labels.
This occurs most when watching ADs, I don't know how to reproduce it however.
The game is entirely unplayable in this state and layers render incorrectly, allowing you to see behind menus, images etc.
If you using Samsung phone:
I found a fix for this issue first on a Google search and then I also found it on this forum. The fix is to go into Settings > Display > Camera Cutout. Select Hide Camera Cutout for Plants vs Zombies 2. It works on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra
Im using a Samsung galaxy S9+, i see no option for this. Closest thing is allow full screen for apps, which for most apps (including pvz2) is always on.
