I'm with you... This is a major "nerf" to many tactics and heroes.
Good bye to:
- Sneaky Gatling Peashooters.
- Rooftop campers.
- Snipers blending in to shoot. (Yeah, I know there is already a glint, but believe it or not, the glint helps more than works against you under certain circumstances. It can hide your character model in bright areas.)
- Garlic Drone. (Garlic Drones now blend nicely in bright skies.)
- Imps.
- Nightcaps will be easier to spot.
- Vanquished enemies on the floor should be more distinguishable from alive ones especially the plants. (Certain death poses, especially for smaller characters like Nightcap and Acorn, can be deceiving sometimes.)
- Sneaky acorns reviving bigger plants while blending inside their character models. (I did that a couple of times lol.)
- It would also increase the awareness of where the enemies are around objectives. (for example, in cheese mines, when attacking as plants, you will be able to see all zombies' highlights from all sides and decide how to approach the objective. Without highlights, you may or may not be able to see others on the left side for example very well. Some players know how to blend in easily.)
I think it's mostly an indirect nerf to the plants. Most zombies are easy to spot, easy to know whether they're down or not and they also have flashy abilities.
The current system, without highlights, encourages players to be more aware of their surroundings by listening/looking and being careful. I'm afraid, the new system will make things easier. Which means it would make it harder for you to stay alive.
We'll see what happens...
If I were them, I'd make a weekend only mode called "Beta PvP". In that mode, I try all the new ideas and collect data/feedback before implementing it in the major modes.
