Re: New cactus ability to better handle close range situations

This is true... Cactus can only survive these encounters if they have very good aim ( and luck ).

Maby if the cactus had a splitting needle shot when descoped... Like a shotgun.

Or the potatoes did less damage but could explode straight away when dropped.

Having spent a lot of time on GW2 myself, I can completely see what OP is saying here... It would be nice to either have something to make cactus better in these situations or pirate worse in them.

To sum up my thoughts on the new ability for the Cacti: No. The Cactus is just plain underrated in close range engagements. He's definetively not the best up-close 1v1 fighter, but he actualy stands a chance. Most Cacti that play these days just panic and drop all of their Potato Mines and prey for a Corn to save them. Needless to say, with that attitude, you die. What you actually should do is to: Scan the area when reloading to pick of any Zombie that could get close. If you can't avoid a close range 1v1, you should place down some mines in order to have them set in the upcoming fight, they could end it before it even starts. If their is an actual gunfight, just scope in for a bit and your shots will usually fly in a straight line, making it easy to kill somebody that doesn't expect you to fight back. The only problem is the Turbo Twister, but we can all agree that that thing has just too much damage resistance.

A boost to potato mine and nugget mine damage would be nice. If she isn't getting any new abilities to save her, might as well at least make her mines deadly to any zombie.

The wallnut and Tallnut does NOT block damage from a ZPG or the Super Ultra Ball. I've had those explode on the Tallnut and kill me and I wasn't even directly against the tallnut. The splash just gets around and hits you for whatever reason. If this could be fixed where they actually provide protection that be great. Right now they are just an obstacle and any zombie will just get around it.

If modifying the ability is a no-no I'd say up the number of them I can drop and don't have a cap to how many I can keep around. Sure a couple cactuses can leave a mess on the map but that is the point. I only say this in the case of modifying the ability is seen as bad. Hell might as well do that to the potato mines, not limit how many can be left around the map at once if the damage isn't going to be risen.

An ability I would like to see is some kind of pumpkin barrier ability and a potato-nade. That be great!

  • I'd love to see a Legendary Cactus class... wonder what crazy hybrid Popcap manages to create....

Instead of giving the cactus abilities to handle close range situations, she just needs to be REALLY good at long range and by REALLY good I mean less recoil on shots like shark beard and the zoom speed increased a little to help her and especially the camo cactus.  The cactus should be better at long range since the captain has close range options.

You know what would make more sense when you're punching a 'Cactus'? Super Brainz or Karate/Browncoats (minus them with Flag, Coffin, or Outhouse) should take passive damage from her thorns. (Or when she takes damage, her passive thorns should hurt if you're in close range) How it works is that it should only proc at least every 1 second if taken damage (rapid fire Imps would easily get destroyed)

Why does the idea of a plant character being able to do things on par with its zombie counterpart scare people so? If you mention cactus with shotgun or mitigation explosive move, or giving a plant a mech people shoot it down instantly. Do people really play only zombies. If so you are missing 50% of the game and 50% of the fun.

  • having the cactus do thorns damage has always made sense to me.  I would love if the potato mine was either an immediate spudow upon placement or if it was a proximity like the scientist ball of hate (also when one of these goes off the cactus gets a speed buff).  If the shield potatoes/walnuts (can't remember the name) would do a shout or something and slow all enemies in the area also that would just be hilarious.

    See you in game..

What exactly are the grounds for the cactus having a close range ability?  Is she supposed to be able to fight on PAR with a shotgun scientist that gets near her who beforehand cannot touch her?  I'm all for new abilities, but I'm not following the premise here for the cactus having this option.

Someone above mentioned improving her range abilities rather then giving her a close range. This is probably the best idea I've read, if she doesn't get a shotgun like cut sharkbite and a barrel then she should at least be on par with his range shots. Captain sharkbite is hands down the better sniper then camo cactus without taking into consideration he can be equally deadly close range.

That being said zen cactus is a very close second in the sniper department to sharkbite when upgraded. She's in my opinion the smoothest plant sniper. So any buff should probably just be towards most of the other variants.

Pls stop trying to ruin the game. Everyone must know that the zombies are overpowered. I don't need to go into this here as many threads actually say. Pls stop trying to have a fight with everyone's valid discussions about new ideas to improve and balance this great game. Stop saying on every thread that plants are good if u are just 'better'. Really, you sound like a stupid child.

As to ur point here and not your general attitude, it is simply incorrect. I am fully upgraded on the normal cactus and am killed quite a bit by scientists, captain deadbeards, superbrainz and imps, all coming into close range and murdering me. Most of the time I cannot zoom in and find my target fast enough or my un-aimed fire is to inaccurate.

Potato mines rarely get me kills, even though they did in the first game, as there are abilities to avoid them, such as the scientists warp, the imps double jump and the superbrainz turbo twister(which always kills me. so OP)

I think a new cactus ability would be great as it would improve close range survivability. Maybe just a short stun or a 30-50 damage AoE; I don't know its for the developers. Also a buff to her drone as it would be more align to deadbeards.

Go back to your cod where you just use the same OP guns, and don't play this game where I bet u just switch to the zombies. EVERYTIME. Dont ruin this game. Stay away.

    Thank you

Love the ideas. Also maybe a variant better for close range witch mitigates melee range damage and spiky deals damage to zombies that attack her in a close range.

I also think that if the cactus stays bad at range it would be good to have a buff to her long range damage and recoil or other stuff?
