Steam Deck error, This may have been downloaded to your device by...

I gor PVZ GW2 installed on my Steam Deck. When I connect my EA account to Steam and tries to launch it I get this error:

"You don't have access. This title may have been downloaded to your device by

another user who owns the game. Log in to a different account or restart the app to try again".

I'm not sure why it says this, I only have bought and installed it directly to my Deck using my main Steam account.

I verified the game's integrity files, I unlinked and linked my EA and Steam account again. Still the same issue.

Now I'm unable to unlink my account again and it says I have to wait a certain time.

. Is there anything I can do this fix this? Thank you so much in advance.

  • Hi @EA_Illium

I was able to resolve the issue by deleting the proton files in SteamOS

I am able to run and play the game. Thank you.

    Hi @AwesomeXSpy @diego0282

First, I would recommend going through the support articles provided by Vavlve for their device:

If this continues would it be possible to get the following information?
    • EA ID:
    • What type of network are you using? (Wired, Wireless, Hotspot)
    • If on PC, please share a DxDiag and an EA app Error ID
    • Do you currently have an EA Play Subscription (or have you had one in the past)?
    • Is the Steam account the owner of the game or game sharing?
    • Does this happen on another device?
    Thanks!

  • Hi,  @EA_Illium

I use a wireless network. My EA account is AwesomeXSpy

I own the game on Steam.

I did remember I used to play PVZ GW2 under this same EA account from my Origin account.

However, It says I do not have it in my EA library when I logged into my EA account on my Steam Deck.

I'm not sure why it doesn't show, that I own it, I believe it was because of I played the game on free trial

but it was so long ago that I'm not entirely sure.

I never owned an EA subscription.

I'm unable to test this on another device, because I'm trying to get it to work on my Steam Deck.

    Thank you for your response.

I have the same issue.  I own Mass Effect Legendary edition on EA and bought it on Steam for my Steam deck.  Now, I own legitimate copies on both platforms, but I can't download from Steam to play on my Steam Deck.  I keep getting the error posted above.  I'm assuming the EA client is confused because it thinks I should be using the EA copy?  Is there a supported way to fix or handle this?

  • Hi @EA_Illium,

This was playing on Steam OS on the Steam Deck.  I found the strangest solution that seemed to work after searching Reddit.

    1. Download and install Mass Effect Legendary edition via Steam
    2. Click Play
    3. Walk through EA installer and sign-in
    4. Error occurs
    5. Press Steam button and Exit Game
    6. Search for Apex Legends
    7. Click install
    8. After 20 seconds, pause the install
    9. Uninstall Apex Legends
    10. Return to Mass Effect Legendary edition
    11. Click Play
    12. After a few moments, the game loads fine.

I've played the game several times since without any issues.  Just wanted to share the details for you to pass this along to the team.  I have no idea why it worked, but it did.
