Merge Academy - Can't place Joker

When I opened the game today there was a joker icon to be used, but I don't have any open  spaces so now the game is stuck. It won't let me do anything   [CM - Edited title for clarity]

    Hello! This new feature was indeed a surprise for us all 🃏I'm sorry to see the game locking upon the introduction. Would you please take a moment to reply and leave the following information in the best way possible; this will help the team identify issues specifically and pinpoint issues.

    • Pogo username:
    • Your browser type and version:
    • Device type (PC/Mac/mobile/laptop):

     

    In the meantime, there are a few workarounds you can try, ticastad1sC​ found one that was pretty impressive and shared it in this posting!

    Other temporary options: 

    • Close the browser tab/window completely
    • Clear browser cache for Pogo
    • Restart the game - this may reset the Joker prompt
    • If possible, try to merge any existing items 
    • Look for any items that can be quickly collected/removed
