iPhone/iPad

So, after a whole lot of discussions and research...

Depending on your device... A-Series / M-Series

The software conflict between SimCity Buildit and iOS is likely miscommunication between the game and iOS 18 - 26.3 updates between March 2025 - February 11, 2026. Specifically, a conflict with the Metal Graphics API released by Apple.

Without a step-by-step approach to troubleshooting... Well... You may be waiting for a solution.

Or, reluctant to try every suggestion because for whatever reason this is the only app overheating and malfunctioning on your device.

Why? VRAM is exhausted.

  1. Disable Game Mode
  2. Settings--> General --> Background Apps Refresh... If on, Turn off
  3. Settings --> General --> iPad Storage --> SimCity Buildit --> Offload App / Reinstall on Same page.
  4. Have 2-15 GB free storage for working memory.
  5. Hard Restart / force restart... Do not shutdown. Volume Up, Volume Down, hold power button.

Then,

  1. Consider experimentation with Liquid Glass, any other Display/Resolution, battery optimizers/low power mode and accessibility settings.

Then, let me know.

I tried 1-5 but still no luck. Very frustrating. I’m going to take a break from the game - the first break in over 10 years!

    good luck.

Thank you for this, since I asked about resetting controls I’ve had no problems …yet. I haven’t done it but if it does happen I’ll do it

Wouldn't hurt. The worst that'll happen is you'll have to reconfigure settings the way you like it if it doesn't work.

That will certainly rule out any user control settings as a problem.

I agree, there is a conflict between the game and iOS. But, consider the following before nuking everything.

There are so many variables involved. The picture I am attaching shows a brief but non-exhaustive diagram and explanation of everything involved to make the game function. Any interruptions along the diagram can result in any number of issues not exclusive to the server.

Pink pixelation occurs when the GPU (for whatever reason) cannot process the data effectively for a clear picture.

I recently downloaded a new game and I cannot play for very long, it keeps freezing. SimCity works on my device, but the new game doesn't.

While SimCity is designed for multiple devices (across time as it is an old game), the new game uses current technology and is designed for newer devices. I can't play the new game because my device is old.

The same thing happens with updates to existing games and systems. Newer technology can make what was working no longer function properly.

  • Would resetting control setting back to default work? I’m debating whether to do this.

  • Thanks for the explanation as to why it’s doing what it does.

Someone in another thread suggested it’s a “VRAM is exhausted and GPU is artifacting. It is a hardware problem through and through.”

    - but why is it only doing it with one app! It’s clearly a conflict isolated to the game and ios.

Okay so I tried all the steps you suggested but the game still pink pixels out.

I’ve contacted EA and gone through their help never ending circle and am waiting for their bot reply in a few days asking if I still need help and deciding whether to go round that help circle for the 6th time or just to forget it, nike my city and be done with it.

  • This was part of another thread, but I wanted to share this here as well. I know the courtesy is no copy/paste responses and I'm curious if screenshots are included.

    Understood, thank you.

Corrections have been made regarding the timeframe. The rest is still accurate and effective.

Unless one's device is too old.

My issues began way longer than that release.  If you back read the comments, you will find that so did everyone else’s.  With EA’s roll out, they have just gotten worse.
