If you pre-sold waffle cones, you better **bleep** well know how much batter you need.
THAT's the problem here. There are no excuses for bad launches. EA has more data than ever to know how many users will be waiting at lauch, with presale data being at their fingertips.
Using your analogy, EA has sold ice cream to 120 people, but can only seat 90. They tell the other 30 people, "Your ice cream is here and ready, but you can't have it and you can't take it home and eat it alone because we don't trust you, even though you already paid for it. But thanks anyway for the money and driving down. You should be able to sit... any... second... now...."---
My concern isn't that they are having issues at launch, issues that will be sorted out over the next couple of days. My concern is that these issues only arise because of the exact anti-consumer provisions that so many of us deplore in the first place.

"Explain why you see it as a shortcut? Failure to know your userload across the world I don't see as a shortcut, I see it as information you could never possibly have until you flip the switch."
well they had the total number of pre-orders to give them an idea. theservers are also one of the things not working. even if it shows room, i can't play. there whould be an online mode, but everything is server side. why? what other games can you name that you pay for and all you get is the launcher. all the data, saved games are on a server that fails. if my PC fails it my fail, but if there server fails i just have to deal with it? let it go?
Being a beta tester for this game it's really dissapointing the problems I've been getting, I've spent more time trying to get the darn thing working than playing it. I hope this gets resolved FAST.

Are you serious? I cannot create a city in the game I just bought? FIX THIS!

Well, at least we're all on the same ground now. I was playing, finally, for a good few hours and finally getting into the game a little and the servers all shut down. What a turd.

I guess you missed the part where I said I dropped some on the floor...meaning intially I thought I had enough however it turns out I no longer do because of unforseen circumstances. I laid it out pretty clear and again - that's exaclty how it is. The "you can't take it home or eat it alone" parts are not relavent to my analogy regarding server uptime.
THAT being said, if you're that unhappy as you're typing appears to be, the solution of calling Origin CS and getting a refund would be quicker/easier than typing everything you did up there ^^ and the problem would have resolved itself...the fact you're still here and still angrily typing how crappy the whole thing is reinforces the fact that when I said "as soon as it's fixed you'll go back to playing" is true.

Sorry, the wait for customer support on the phone is 2+ hours now, so the post he typed took WAY LESS TIME.
And yes, between the pre-orders and the beta testing, a company should have gotten its act together for launch.
Ah you're right, it totally makes sense for me now. Instead of waiting in line for CS who can actually help him, or putting a stop to the charge on his card - it's WAY more productive to bitch on a forum because THAT is what gets things done!

I haven't been able to play for ~8 hours. Been reloading and I've hit just about every error message on this message board.
I knew that the always online DRM for a SIMCITY game was garbage but I was a dumb ass and bought it anyways. Now that I think about this I have this experience with most EA games but this time it's twice as stupid for a single player city builder.

can people just stop being mean to each other?
FACT: we paid for a game.
FACT: that game is not working for many of us.
FACT: EA says they are working to fix it.
FACT: being a troll only helps the troll.
FACT: this is ANSWER HQ, not Jerk HQ, so can people just stop?
i have a life, i shower, i go outside every day, i live in a clean home, i am married, i make a living for my self, i am not a teen, i have a great life outside of the gaming world. but if i pay $80 for someing i would hope that something would work. SimCity is not working. not just for me, for LOTS AND LOTS OF PEOPLE WORLD WIDE! why is that hard for some to understand?!
if you got to a store and pay $50 for a Blueray and get home and find that the movie not not on it, or does not play, would you just put it away and tell yourself its ok because some people got a working copy and it was a great movie to they can keep the money? OR would you take it back and get another copy? and if that copy didn't work, would you want your money back? i think so. so why is it ok to spent $60 - $80 on a game that does not work?
I personaly am willing to wait a few days to see if they can fix it. But if people want their money back they should get it. Why do games get to keep all the data from us, but if a movie tried to do that it's wrong? when did we the players start to think that games were not the same as anything else we put our money and time into? Why is looking for an answer at the site for answers a reason to get told off by some ramdom person?
