for the DEV's

im gunna make a compiled list of the good and bad things as a person that has played the skate series since i was a child.

goods: building is actually cool just wish i had a private park so i could make something for the community to try like skate 3, flick it system doesnt feel bad updated and i like that i can climb most things when that wasnt an option before hand; matter of fact i feel like the parkour is really cool but it takes away from this being ya know a SKATE GAME. my bois at the park after a couple tricks in a bowl irl arent just doing gainers over stuff idk its odd.

thats it for the goods unfortunately.

bads: no fingerflips, darkslides eliminating pages of tricks that have existed since the first game. you cant advertise how this NEW version of the game has a bunch of new options for tricks and not even have the full catalog of original tricks.  most of the tricks just look like im jumping off the board (doesnt feel like you guys have sat down and watched how feet and legs go off a board to do a trick just how the board is supposed to flip.), no one wants a loot box based progression system even if its free, not being able to break bones is lame and childish, the ai model voice over is annoying and unnecessary cause of izzy, izzy is an annoying hipster that chirps in your ear every 2 seconds to say "FoOtY" even though getting footage means nothing in this game/the replay system is 100% worse than skate 3 and even skate 2. the visual representation youve provided this game is for mall skaters aka people who like skater fashion but dont really skate aka someone who wears a thrasher hoodie and vans but cant ride a board. the visual style of the game is horrible idk who thought that the sims and the skate series has a fanbase that intersects at all but they need to be straight up fired.  no pro skater missions/what missions exist dont feel like old missions from the older games they feel like tony hawk missions hands down (doesnt feel like you guys have played through any of the skate games imo just watched slide shows or something), you keep saying this is a community based game but the community has been pointing out a lot of these issues for YEARS, no skate brands in said loot boxes just generic stuff that wouldve been given to the player starting the game instead of starting them out as a homeless person. you made meat man a 25$ pack when you would get him for BEATING HALL OF MEAT AS A REWARD EVERYGAME?  theres no broken bones. the only real skate brand i saw chocolate? ANOTHER 25$ pack. wtf man. i only saw girl wheels and even those cost real money. this is a disgusting practice. what you should have done is provided the community with REAL skate brands and make your generic stuff buyable if we wanted too like the grim reaper set up. gives you guys incentive to actually create for the community instead of just take from the culture. only character body modification is for **bleep** and butt, only like 5-6 guy hairstyles and 2 pages of girls hair styles (im a dude with long hair and i dont feel represented), every face is androgynous when SKATE GAMES ALWAYS HAD WOMEN let alone representation.

if you wanted to represent women skaters you couldve LICENSED WOMEN PROS TO BE IN YOUR GAME MAKE TEAMS WITH THEM ALONG WITH THE MEN ITS NOT THAT HARD THAT WOULDVE BEEN AMAZING ACTUALLY AND IM A DUDE SAYING THAT. not by washing the game down into a game where you dont know if you are a he she or them thus giving the game no representation for every day regular people when the skate series was an in the life of a every day skater.

as a man that waited 15 years to play this game; i could only stomach 10 hours of play time before re downloading skate 2.

your team doesnt know what skaters want

edit:ive put more time in to find more that youve missed.  cant grab your board while grinding. which was a feature since skate 2. i figured id be able to finger flip off of rails in this game for how much ads were done for how many new tricks were being added to the game. it feels like you guys spent so much time making a parkour game that yall forgot this is a SKATE game.
edit on top of edit: no comply's dont inheritly do shovits irl. its just a push to ollie. another example of your team only knowing skateboarding from videos and not having any real skaters consulting your team
edit on top of edit on top of edit my god guys: no underflips. removing again pages of tricks. yall really didnt play the last games and with how everything is set up im 100% expecting these tricks to be added in a 40$ throwback trick pack or some bs because of how predatory the rest of the game is with micro transactions and theres a dickies hoodies for free before anything a real skater would wear. this is gross. i wouldve paid 60$ for a GOOD skate game and more for dlc. i paid for every dlc in every skate game previous. this game straight up ruins the legacy and tries to take money from people over pixels.

i tapered my expectation when i saw the art style change and to your point; would it have had 2 mill players at launch probably not. but it more than likely wouldnt have been review bombed to negative reviews if they just stuck to what they had instead of trying to advertise to children and stayed true to form.

at this point even after putting in 20 more hours because im genuinely trying to find the good in this game.

theres nothing guys. all of the challenges are exactly the same. "collect bearings, do this many (tricks) and get this amount of points." with different names. thats blatantly lazy.
not having the original trick catalogue is lazy.

only having loot boxes for progression is lazy.

im tired of everyone coping for companies willing to give us hot dog water and hoping that it will turn into a 5 course meal.

the REASON this game has so many players is because its had an amazing trilogy of games and im guessing a lot of the community like me were really really hoping to get something new and amazing for the SKATE series.

this is downright laziness and cash grabbing with a flick it system.

no one in this dev team can skate or has been to a park or even talked to a skater when developing this game.

the dime park?  4 pads right next to eachother in between two vert ramps with no space? with a giant fkn sword?with nonsensical vert ramps circling the place.

falling used to feel cool in the last games. now when i fall im just like "ehh alright bag of potatoes" or just instant reset when even the last games made falling so entertaining that id replay and rewatch falls for hours like im making my own 411 video (old skate video that just had skaters falling during their parts)

if they wanted to bring in a new audience. they shouldve made a different game series then and called this XtremeWRLD instead of trying to ruin something that was great.  the last games made me wanna become a photographer for skateboarding and i did it for years because the SKATE series showed me a world where i could feel not as odd being a grungy kid that liked to ride with my friends and get photos.

this game  is only trying to sell you clothes and has nothing to do with skate culture and if you think that adding some thrasher hoodies in a season pass is gunna fix that. then the community itself has a problem.

thats why im upset. i wanted to show my nieces and nephews what inspired me one day.

this is not that at all and just hurts to see something get straight up commercialized. in my opinion this game should be taken down and redone entirely. how it is will only last due to it being a free updated skate. not because its a good game.

Hey man, as much as I thoroughly agree with 99% of what you've said here. I think part of the issue for them as a games company is something you addressed.. Most fans of the franchise are in their 30s now, so it was only natural that they would have to reinvent the game to be more relevant to a new audience. Sure You and I would happily pay $40-60 for a well made sequel, but would that sequal have had 2 million players in the first week? I doubt it, especially new to the franchise players. I understand the cash grab loot box system for generating income and hope that the fact these ipad kids are getting their parents to pay for garish skins will give them extra financial backing as a studio (not just EA overall) to make the game great. I also agree they are tone deaf to skate culture, but sadly you haven't made the best point about current skate culture by asking for skate mag. The final issue of skate mag was in 2017. Thrasher is really the only thriving skateboarding entity. I know there is transworld and freeskatemag and I guess you can count the berrics too, but if you want current skate culture, it's all on social media for young skaters. The nine club is probably a good outlet to reference for skate culture because they keep up with current skating but being from IMO the last good generation of skating, they lean to the nostalgia side of skating. I honestly thing Pretty Sweet was probably the last really good full length and that was 13 years ago.

Just food for thought, I think OG fans need to taper expectations for what skate culture actually is these days but don't get me wrong, this game is as tone deaf as it comes. Skating has always been and always will be about rebellion, expression and socialising. I think this game has the opportunity to be great. Like the RealisticSkateEA community on reddit have just made a discord for people who want to skate a certain way and I think things like that will drive certain aspects of the game. Proximity chat would massively help with it too. But making the whole map a skate eutopia takes away some of the main points of skating, which is finding places that weren't made to be skated and getting creative.

first of all, just have to say I’m having a lot of fun with it. It’s not Skate 3, and definitely not Skate 2, but this is early access.

here are a few things to make it even better:

MORE WAYS TO THROWDOWN - lines (also - user made lines), follow the leader, s.k.a.t.e (like in the previous game), maybe a race one - getting from point A to B with least crashes, speed, most tricks etc). Also, the throw downs, the way they’re now is that players don’t start from the same point which is kinda weird.

A TROPHY ROOM - an apartment, maybe, like in Skate Session. A place where a few friends can hang and maybe even voice chat…

DIY SKATE PARK - this feature is very important, imo, the early access is missing the personal DIY skate park, where you can built with the assets you gathered and throwdown away from the open city (I know it’s only early access but still)

LONGER TRAILS & MORE CHALLENGES PER SPOT - in Skate 2 the was a long “trail” from the dam all the way, through the sewers, to the city. build few longer trails to explore. The current map is not very big. Yes, It feels very “flowy” with many spots to find, explore and experiment with. The well-thought challenges are giving you ways to look at the city intuitively. I don’t mind coming back to spot and do the challenge again. Just like real skating, when you find a spot, you go back to it and try doing same tricks. Saying that, maybe user-inspired challenge.

WARDROBE- it was cool in the last game that, you could choose how to wear your stuff - hat backwards, unbuttoned shirt, hoodie up or down etc. also for the skate stickers-  change the position or size. None of these are features in the early access yet. (+ LET US BREAK BONES ON WIPEOUT MISSIONS)

USABLE STICKERS - like to put a sticker on the gathered DIY inventory.

My last remark for now, and a BIG ONE, if we want it to grow as a community game - please make the VIDEO EDITOR better! Now, there are no keyframe, no effects, no editor, not a real way to share easily… video capturing is an essential part of skateboarding. In every crew you’ll find the videographer. Every crew wants to make THAT skate video. with a good editor, this game can blow up on social media (enabling voice chat for your immediate squad is a must too).

I can’t wait to keep playing SKATE and see what EA’s full version will be. This was worth the wait.
    what do you think?

EA_cuervo i genuinely hope something happens thats huge because what your team provided is a sims expansion with the Skate flick it system and a "story" thats really just the longest tutorial in existence. the game is so beyond childish when the main group of people excited about the SKATE series are almost 30. the other games felt like they were trying to take skating seriously. this game feels like your entire team is calling skating and skate culture childish.

to be frank it feels like The sims team was excited to make a Tony hawk pro skater game but got the SKATE IP so they had to use the flick it system.

this is beyond off the mark with what i expected from a SKATE game. heres what i thought i was gunna get:  maybe not an entire map but most of a huge map(maps really small man) filled with pros because thats always been a focus in skate games. maybe not a bunch of pros but enough to carry some missions/introductions to types of tricks (like all of the other skate games) like jamie foy teaching you to do a long rail. chris joslin maybe showing you multi flips down your COPY OF EL TORO. stuff that would show you skate culture and emulate real life historical moments in skating while showing you how to skate instead of just telling you what to do every mission to check a box(its all the same mission just different names and logo). i thought there was gunna be some skate brands, boards etc for us to unlock. not like i didnt expect to pay for skins this is a free game but not having ANY real boards, wheels, brands etc the player can get for free is straight up gross tactics and makes people like me not wanna give you anything. i thought i was gunna be at least able to do tricks i could do in the last game at minimum.

it genuinely feels like none of your team sat and played the original series. it had grit. its the game series that started simulation skating in video games by not only being a game that took some skill but thoroughly involved skate culture unlike any other game. this game is just leaving all that behind and not even competing.
wheres atiba? wheres skate mag?  wheres the culture?

knowing the skate team "the grind vol 6." is going too ignore the communities wants and just fix bugs for the game no one wants to play.
