Making Skate. Truly “For Everyone

Hey everyone,

I’ve been following the Early Access build closely, and I wanted to share some thoughts around one of the biggest points of criticism: the aesthetic of the new Skate.

A lot of long-time fans feel like the game doesn’t carry the same soul as the older Skate titles. The words I see thrown around most are things like “average,” “normie clothes,” or just “colorful and vibrant” in a way that doesn’t match the skater culture feel. Compared to something like THPS or even the old Skate games, I get why people feel it’s missing that raw, gritty edge.

That said, I personally don’t mind the current vibe. I understand the goal of making Skate. more appealing to a wider audience—new players, casual players, people outside of the traditional skate culture. This is important not just for the community, but for the survival of the game and the jobs of the people working on it. Bringing in fresh players is necessary if this series is going to thrive long-term.

Still, I think there’s a way to make both groups happy. One solution could be to implement optional aesthetic filters or stylistic overlays that give the game that vintage Skate vibe. A grittier look, muted tones, or even customizable themes could let long-time fans get that nostalgic feel while still keeping the game’s current, more accessible look for newer audiences.

This kind of flexibility would turn Skate. into something truly “for everyone”—a love letter to the series that respects its history while also inviting new players into the fold. Right now, some fans see it as just a mass-market play or even a “cash grab,” but features like this could completely flip that perception and make the community feel heard.

I really believe if the devs strike that balance—classic skate soul mixed with modern accessibility—it could transform Skate. from being divisive into being celebrated as the best of both worlds.

What do you all think? Would something like filter effects or customizable aesthetics be a good middle ground?
