Skate Has Huge Potential – Here’s My Feedback
Hi everyone,
I grew up playing the Tony Hawk series, but I had never tried Skate until now. To my surprise, I’m really enjoying it. I believe the game has enormous potential, and that’s why I’d like to share a few suggestions that I think could add value.
- Reevaluate the rarity tiers of cosmetics. Example: a T-shirt that can be obtained easily and for free should never be considered “Rare,” as it takes away value and realism from the cosmetics. Rarity should depend on how difficult an item is to obtain. A free cosmetic can be rare, but only if it’s locked behind a demanding challenge. Conversely, a paid item available for a long time shouldn’t be considered rare, while a time-limited exclusive one should be.
- Recycling free cosmetics is understandable, but mixing paid ones with free ones damages the perception of exclusivity and reduces their commercial appeal. In the early stages of the game this may go unnoticed, but in the long term it could generate frustration and rejection.
- Add more achievements on Steam/PS/Xbox/EA/Epic/ . Currently, their number and quality are quite poor. Skate constantly challenges players to improve their skills in order to land certain tricks or trick sequences that grow increasingly complex, so creating achievement goals tailored to this is essential.
- Implement a customizable playlist feature. As is well known, skateboarding is strongly connected to music, which is why I consider this an important addition. Of course, players can always mute the in-game music and use Spotify, but that results in less immersion.
- It makes little sense that well-known figures from skateboarding participate in Skate but only by portraying fictional characters. Antonio Banderas voices Puss in Boots because his real-life persona wouldn’t fit in Shrek’s fictional world—but that’s not the case with Skate. I understand this may have something to do with image rights, but I believe it’s an issue worth addressing. Resolving this would be one of the most beneficial things for the game, since it would allow players to connect more with the characters. It would also help those who aren’t already into skateboarding culture to discover and become interested in it, making them feel more engaged.
- Strengthen the game’s presence by using Twitch and the advantages of Prime Gaming. At this stage, collaborating with streamers is not as essential since the initial hype has passed; however, it will make much more sense when the official launch or Season 1 happens.
I could add more suggestions such as new game modes, songs, brands, or collaborations, but those are likely already in development, so it wouldn’t make much sense to mention them here. I would also like to highlight a couple of smaller ideas, although I consider them less relevant:
- A “Wardrobe” system to save different outfits and easily switch between them, allowing players to express their style without having to manually change each cosmetic item every time.
- Settings presets, so players can store different configurations (controls, camera, difficulty, etc.) and swap between them depending on the session whether casual skating, filming, or competitive play.
See you in-game!
