Re: EA App combined Star Wars BF 2 standard ed. & free Epic Celeb Ed. Won't Launch!

I've seen a lot of similar posts from people who have purchased from different places. Account issue is usually the culprit. You will need to reach out to EPIC or EA support as no one on this forum will be able to get your account sorted.

You might also try uninstalling the launchers and reinstalling all but Origin.

I imagine you already searched this forum for "epic". If not, I suggest you do so.

Thanks for your reply Last Hero 🙂

I've tried uninstalling EA and Epic, updating to latest version of Epic Launcher, clearing caches, game repairs, and even reinstalling Origin which then forces me to reinstall the EA app...

Nothing works the game will not launch and the EA app will not differentiate between the Origin bought SWBF2 standard edition or the Epic freebie Celebration edition. I'm still getting the 'Your game failed to launch. An error on our end caused your launch to fail. Try again a little later' message. Over 36 hours now...

Naturally, I've reached out on the forums (thanks again Last Hero), EA's email, and now for the third time to the EA helpline. I finally got through and thankfully wasn't disconnected (again) an hour ago. The EA representative said because the EA app is 'new' this is to 'be expected' and there will be a fix eventually... no date or time for the fix other than she'll log the issue and it will be fixed at some unspecified time in the future.

I was, of course, very surprised by this response and mentioned that the EA app has been live for approximately 4 months now and surely EA would not release an app that hadn't been thorough checked and beta tested for such problems, especially when the move is now being forced without choice? I also mentioned that there seems to have been issues on the forums for several months with other linked account based games such as Epic or Steam. On the forums this kind of thing was supposedly fixed already - so I asked why there are still problems? The answer was a repeat of 'wait and see'... I then stated that this isn't really my problem as SWBF2 was bought on Origin, but the EA app has blended together the two different versions blocking the launch of both on both apps. Response 'wait and see'.

Honestly, I must say this response was not worth the multiple attempts to contact them, waiting for several hours on the phone, and multiple disconnects. The fact is EA have forced me to move from Origin to a new app that is bug riddled and blocking me from playing a game I have paid for. How about they compensate me financially for this loss of my game until they get their act together? Further, it might be an idea to not release and force the use of an App that doesn't work in future?

If they allowed me to use the Origin App until this issue was fixed would be an answer of course. The answer to this was 'it is not possible'.

Anyhow, I'm still waiting but won't hold my breath for a quick solution to this problem.

EA did allow people to use Origin while working out issues with EA app - for years, actually. In other words, EA app has been live for much more the 4 months.

I suggested you completely remove Origin, yet your response suggests you reinstalled it. You should uninstall it and keep it uninstalled to keep that variable out of your troubleshooting mix.

You suggest in your original post that you can't play the game at all. Seems to me if you keep Origin and EPIC uninstalled (for now), you should be able to launch from EA app. No? To be clear - uninstall all three, then just reinstall EA app.

    Hi DarthFDG,

thank you for your reply 🙂

Unfortunately, I've tried what you suggest, uninstalling all three launchers and just installing the EA app. This means, of course, that I can't access my Epic games but for now that's not the end of the world 😉

Nevertheless, the same 'failure to launch due to an issue our end' message comes up on the EA app. I can't be 100% certain but it seems to be a loop inducing conflict in the EA app which has marked my Origin SWBF2 standard edition as from Epic, when actually it was bought via Origin. Consequently, Epic deny the game to run as I haven't bought it from them, and then EA won't allow Epic's Celebration edition to run as I haven't bought it from Origin/EA. This has effectively locked me out of both versions of the game...

Some good news! I found work around late last night that has temporarily allowed me to run the Origin SWBF2 standard edition from Origin. I uninstalled EA, kept Epic installed and then reinstalled Origin. I then added a line in the Origin local.xml file as instructed in a YouTube video on how to stop the EA pop up. THANK YOU TO THE AUTHOR OF THIS FIX! YOU ROCK! O/

I won't put a direct link here as recommended by the video author to hopefully increase the time before the fix is patched. However, if anyone is looking for the fix the video is easy to find on YouTube... just do a search... it's only 2 or 3 minutes long.

Once back into Origin I did a full repair of SWBF2 four times... yes, for some reason it took four times. On the 5th or 6th launch attempt the game ran and I could play. Thankfully my cloud saves had saved my progress.

At least it works for now. Crazy I had to go to such lengths and I'm not holding my breath for EA to resolve this issue any time soon. Their 'wait and see', 'we're fixing it', and 'call us back' after hours on the phone, etc, with no confirmed resolution date is just total bs.

I must say I am APPALLED at EA's so called 'customer service' and release of an obviously buggy EA App. I'd heard stories of how bad the EA app and EA's customer service is, but until you experience it and the what can only be described as their deliberate, kafkanesque attempt to obfuscate their 'help' process to avoid resolving issues caused by their software it's hard to believe. Having now experienced it, trust me now I will believe anyone who says they've had a similar experience. Sadly, EA have lost my custom and as many people as I can influence to not use their products or services.

  • I purchased the game directly from EA on PC, and since being upgraded to EA App, SWBF2 would fail to launch.

Today my cousin, who is a PC engineer, worked out where the problem is. We opened the EA App on my PC using a different local Windows User Account, and then tried starting SWBF2, and it launched and ran with no problems at all. When we switched back to my Windows User Account, the non-launch problem persisted, and still is at time of printing.

As such it would appear that the non--launch issue is caused by corruption somewhere in the Windows User Profile files. We could not work out where, but at least it narrows down the problem.

@New_Roosterman This also fixed it for me, though through playing it on another user, other problems arose. I wonder what could be the issue.

Well here we are again... I used the Origin hack until EA forced me again to install the EA app two weeks ago. Surprisingly SWBF2 finally worked and launched via the EA app... GREAT! The problem of EA confusing my Origin/EA bought standard edition with my freebie Epic linked Celebration edition solved I thought with a sigh of relief...

However, today, two weeks after playing the game no problem, I started up the EA app to play my bought at Origin/EA SWBF2 and noticed immediately that new text had been added to my library stating that my SWBF2 is the 'Standard Edition accessed through Epic'... which is, of course, incorrect. Not surprisingly, the same thing as before happened and Epic will not let me play the game even if I go through the EA opening of Epic, etc, as i don't own the standard edition with them.

To say I am utterly sick of EA and want my money back is an understatement.

    Can anyone help?

I have tried to contact EA and report this but they won't give me access to directly contact them to report this continuing issue with their rubbish app and refer me to this forum. I'm not spending 4 hours waiting on their telephone line to be told their tech people are working on it and contact them again in a few weeks.

All I play is SWBF2 and EA keep causing me distress and upset ☹️

Yeah, I've been having this issue for the past few weeks yet nothing has been done, opened up a forum a few minutes ago. honestly most likely going to get the same responses you have. at this point, I'm going to give up as there seems to be no honesty on ea parts that they are * up and can't admit it. Part of me is considering on just purchasing the game on Epic and playing it through there, Yet again there may be an issue where this arises instead on Epic games. EA games creating new things and faking up is no surprise to me.

Hi How2siege, sorry to hear your having the same issue! I don't have a solution I'm afraid even though my SWBF2 version did swap back to a EA edition for four days and then for no reason swapped to an accessed through Epic version again. It's obviously an ongoing issue with EA's library system messing up ownership and access of games...

For some reason I can now play the game via Epic but this means two game launchers running and you can really see the CPU/RAM system drain. The EA app runs 4 services and takes 30% of my system resources alone, add in Epic and I'm basically spending 40% of my system resources just to launch the game. What a complete load of rubbish the EA app is. Honestly, I can't believe they'd release it without ironing out such basic issues. Contempt for their customers comes to my mind...

Regarding EA customer support I got an email 24 hours after opening my ticket about this issue asking if I wanted to keep it open or they'd automatically close the ticket. I clicked on the link to keep my ticket open only to find there is no way to keep the ticket open!!! So this issue is supposedly closed now because it magically fixed itself before even EA got around to looking at it... what a downright nefarious way to hide the fact they aren't providing support and solutions... just close the ticket down 'automatically' before looking at the problem with no way for the customer to stop them. Presumably so they can provide bogus 'positive' customer service statistics.

Regarding a potential solution other than buying through Epic I'm wondering if somehow the 4 days of playing SWBF2 via my correct EA owned game I got recently had something to do with me trying to fix it. I did an app recovery, cleared the EA cache, signed in different ways (email and EA name), signed in offline and online, etc. I'm going to try this again and see if it resets back to the correct 'stand edition' owned via EA rather than the incorrect 'standard edition accessed via Epic'. All this messing around and lost game time is just further proof never to buy games via EA :/

Yeah, It's a shame. What happened to me is that when I launch the game it instantly opens up epic games and on the ea app it says "Launching game" and nothing happens at all. Even when I log into the epic games client it doesn't show up that I own the game...

I never had this issue when I used the Origin App. it would just originally boost up with no need to have the Epic Games client. It's so stupid how you need to launch the Epic client after downloading it through EA.

Any EA game that needs to be opened via other gaming Clients is just straight-up *. As you stated, this may be an ownership issue between the two companies. Just poorly optimized and running.

Hope it works out in the future for you. I just uninstalled it. no point in having a 60GB game that takes hours to download just for a company to deny or accept any wrongdoings.

Sorry you had to uninstall the game. Maybe that's what they want in a way so that people buy new games? I still think SWBF2 is a great game, especially the Star Fighter section which knocks spots off clunky Star Wars Squadrons. If Ea, etc, wanted to make a lot of money they could spin out the starfighter section of the game with a new adventure and level editor and it would probably make tens of millions if not more for very little effort...
